In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

A lot of people in summer - it's better to visit in spring!
I visited Volksgarten for the second time and it is surely a lovely place, but I must say that I enjoyed the park much more in May. When we were therea week ago, the density of people was insane. Also, if you hope for some shadow on a hot summer day, I've gotta say - there are some better parks for a cooldown.

The People's Gardens. First opened in 1823. What a difference the seasonal time of year makes.
We had first visited these gardens in September when there were masses of roses and other beautiful flowers. On this occasion we visited in December and, whilst the gardens were still beautifully laid out, the roses were covered with bags, there were hardly any leaves on the trees and the whole place looked very barren. The green grass added a splash of colour. It was though still worth a look if only to see the neo-classical Thedeus Temple and the monument to Empress Elizabeth. These were the first public gardens in Vienna.

Stunning roses and so well maintained.
The most beautiful garden full of roses . Just perfect. A great place to sit and relax after exploring Vienna . We spent half a day here just looking at all the flowers and enjoying the cafe for a nice cold drink .

Really lovely gardens that have been looked after so well but when we visited all of the pavilions were shut which meant nowhere to get a drink whilst the weather was hot. Also toilets are paid for and from what I could see it was coins only.

Nice spot to sit and watch the world go by though.

The beautiful gardens are part of the Hofburg Palace and was built on top of the city's fortifications that were destroyed by Napoleon in 1809. The park was opened to the public in 1823 and remains very popular with locals and visitors alike.

There are several nice city parks around the Ringstrasse, this being the People's Park, one of the oldest in the city having been opened to the public in 1823. Visited this year during the early autumn and found the entire park charming with green shrubs, trees, a vibrant rose garden and monuments surrounded by bright flowerbeds. It made for a nice morning walk prior to setting off on my day of sightseeing around Innere Stradt. Well worth a visit for a morning stroll or afternoon stop to enjoy a rest amongst the Viennese also enjoying the beautiful grounds within Volksgarten.

Constructions everywhere, I did not enjoy my walk.
Not recommended for tourists.
Also, I have noticed that the garden is not that clean as it supposed to be.

Haven on earth during the roses blossoming time.. beginning in June. Surrounded by beautiful buildings in Greek, Gothic and Baroque styles along Ringstraße.
