Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We used to live in Malta for the past 5 years almost. It was one of my favorite places to go out and have fun with my daughter. Lots of plants here, who offer shade in this heat, lovely cats living here and also a nice playground.

You can find the Independence gardens right by Saint Julians tower along Sliemas busy seafront.
Set below the level of the seafront road and squeezed in between the sea and road, the gardens run parallel.
Access is via sets of steps or wheelchair friendly ramps. Once down in the gardens you lose most of the road noise and it becomes quite peaceful. The gardens have flowerbeds set out some formally with lots bedding plants, in a riot of colours. Informal beds and a mixture of trees are included.
Dotted about are several gazebo style shelters for respite from the sun, many locals use these on their lunchbreaks. One end the park boasts a fountain and play area for children.
The park has many cat boxes dotted around, sited presumably for strays. In about the centre of the park is single storey building with toilets. On the roof of this building is 10-15ft fibreglass cat in a multi-colured coàt. If you closely you will see the cat has been painted to show he only has one eye. This led us to surmise the gardens are also home to a cat sanctuary.
The gardens are well set out, lovely and free to enter, with good views over Saint Julians bay. Enjoy.

This is a beautiful park along the St Julian/ Sliema promenade, nice place to stop by sit down and watch the waves crash in!

Nice little park, garden maybe not the best well maintained and kept clean. A lovely section to this park is a cat park where locals of the area have given to cats, small little houses and food lay aside their huts though not many roaming about.

Came here for the reason of the cats and garden aspect but the garden isn’t very well looked after a lot of weeds and dead plants, understandably cats enjoy to roam the areas so I just didn’t see them but beautiful idea.

Nice park along side the ocean and ramps down to the rocks for swimming purposes come as a bonus! Great place for kids, with its own playground and very safe in terms of gates and fencing.

Worth a visit!

Independence Gardens along the seafront makes for a delightful stroll in what I consider the best place in Malta, my beloved hometown of Sliema! Don't miss the chance to have a pleasant walk through this garden located in what is undoubtedly one of the busiest towns on the island. There are plenty of spots within where you could snap that perfect selfie or holiday shot!

Independence gardens for those who have not visited Malta yet, is not what you would expect. The gardens run between the sea and the street in Sliema. The gardens are used by the locals and the tourist. It is a pleasant walkway lined with plenty of benches to sit in the sun or shade. There are plenty of kiosks to stop for a drink, snack or ice cream. For those with children there is a pleasant play area with swings. Along the rocky shore line you can take a dip in the crystal clear water. There are slip ways where the locals come and go with their boats to go fishing. The best thing I liked was the free wifi for the ipad that can be picked up almost anywhere.

Pleasant gardens to walk through, toilets and access to ‘rocky ‘beach. Pleasant cafe and shady areas. Home to several cats.

This little park is worth stopping for to rest your feet while looking out at sea. Enough shaded place to stay cool. Particularly notable are the "stray cat hotel" and big smiley cat statue, which are quite sweet.

Lovely gardens with views across the bay. If you like cats this is the place to go- we came across more than a dozen & that was in the heat of the day. All seem very clean & well fed & friendly. Lovely play area too for children
