One of the main things to do on Comino when not going to the beach. When you get off the water taxi, it’s almost a madhouse with huge numbers of people hanging around the food trucks, sunbathing, or using the beach. If you follow the road to St. Mary’s Tower, take it to the end and go right. You will then pass an old isolated hospital from French and British colonial times. It’s an easy walk with a slight incline and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The tower itself is a distinctive structure and you can access it by a set of stairs. There is a chain across the stairs indicating it’s closed but everybody seems to ignore it and climb the steps anywhere. From there you get commanding views of the Gozo Channel and you can easily see both Malta and Gozo. There is a shorter but more tricky way to get back to the beaches and you can get some really nice coastal views coming down. Just take it easy and wear appropriate footwear. It’s a peaceful environment and only visited by a handful of tourists; most come to Comino for the beach. I offer some tips below. 1 - bring a hat and use sunscreen. There is very little shade on Comino. Drink plenty of water 2 - wear proper shoes. I see some people wear sandals going there. The terrain is rocky and rough in places 3 - food and drink is available at the beach from food trucks. It’s not cheap a small bottle of water goes for about 1.40€ or so. Very much worth the visit in all and it was great to see the location where they had filmed the 2002 film “The Count of Monte Cristo.”

We got there after a 35 min walk from the Blue Lagoon . It was closed .
However , the view is amazing and therefore quite interesting historically .
The Tower was built as one of many lookout towers built around Island to give the Maltese advanced warning of a pirate raid or invasion .
For that reason the view is amazing . The island of Gozo across the straight , the Ferries leaving the town of Cirkewwa for Gozo and of course an amazing view the Blue Lagoon .
Full disclosure ? I love forts .

After it was announced it was about 30 minutes walk from the blue Lagoon, I opted not to walk to it. However from in the view, it seems a mystical church. If you are at the Blue Lagoon and feel like trekking to it then it is sure worth the visit. There is also a little statue of the virgin Mary and child in the rocks close by.
Do enjoy

Comino is not a large island and the Tower is a short half an hours walk from the Blue Lagoon and the main port - the terrain is not difficult to navigate and the walk itself is lovely with views of the island and the coast. The tower is not that steep and the views from the top are great too - information is available in a few different languages including English. It's a shame really that more don't venture away from the Lagoon to this part of the island as there is so much to see here.

Sometimes it it possible to visit this tower (3 times a week). Anyway, even if closed, you can climb the steps to the top and enjoy the stunning view.

This tower is actually called Santa Marija Tower. It is a fantastic tower to visit with stunning views from the top. There isn't any wheelchair access but there are toilets in the basement of the tower. I really enjoyed it here and it's so cool in the basement where one can eat a packed lunch. I came there by ferry to Comino and the Blue Lagoon and walked to the tower which was quite some distance. The Maltese sun is a demon so make sure you take sunblock and some water with you. I loved the walk to the tower as the fauna and flora is very interesting with unusual plants and tiny lizards to see. I would recommend to visit because the tower has a lot of history and the people who run it are very informative. There is even a small gift shop too.

The place is steeped in history and looks fantastic from the outside but for each day of our holiday on Comino (in October 2018 )we visited the tower to try and find out when it was open! WE read and were told that it was open to the public on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30 to 15.00pm April to October but it wasn't open on any of these days. WE looked for the flag flying but we were let down. Id be happy to pay an entrance fee to go inside but please if it is open to the public then OPEN IT! Even a sign on the chain across the steps to say why its not open would help.

Although Comino looks small, a walk to the tower is not for everyone, especially under the Maltese sun. However this tower is very beautiful and worth visiting closely. It is most famously for being used as the prison, Chateau D'If in the film the Count of Montecristo that was shot in Malta.

If you disembark at the Blue Lagoon, it's about a 20 minute walk up to St. Mary's Tower, well worth the walk as you'll enjoy views across to Gozo and Malta, especially if it's open as you can climb up to the roof. I am not sure which days it's open, but the volunteers that were there said that it shuts at 3pm. They were ever so friendly, handing out leaflets that tell the history of the tower. When walking up there, I recommend taking the path that runs up past the toilets. There are several paths, some safer than others as they're not so close to the clifftop, although the ones that are provide fantastic views of the Crystal Lagoon.

This is an impressive coastal defence tower built in 1618. Some fascinating history and stunning views, but not very big and not much to do. Very isolated and not recommended for older generations (very steep stairs). Free but entry by donation of your choice.

Spectacular views of Gozo and Comino from the top of this restored watchtower perched high above the sea on Comino, Malta. Designed to prevent pirates from preying on the boats of local fishermen and farmers who were on their way to market. Great view of the dramatic blue washed waters of the coves below.
