I’m a travel agent, and I embarked with 2 of my clients, on a 13-days tour of Iceland in July, their peak summer season, with Fun Travel Iceland, and it was a fantastic tour. Before the tour started, I had communicated for quite some time with Jens, the owner and guide, asking all kinds of questions which my clients had asked, and he was excellent in terms of quick responses, organization, knowledge, and experience not only with office matters, but overall operation and information of the tour. It was a pleasure working with Jens.
On the itinerary: Every place of visit was fantastic – in terms of historical, cultural and especially the geography. The scenery was fantastic, with lots of waterfalls, and each waterfall is different. We drove along the fjords, and the geography and geology was simply amazing. We visited geothermal pools and geysers, lava fields, glaciers, hot springs, fishing villages, wildlife (Arctic Fox & Puffins)…..and the sun hardly sets at this time of year. There were some light activities involving trekking through canyons and streams, hiking up a couple of small volcanoes. We range in ages from 50 to 67, and we were all healthy, so these activities did not present any issues.
On food: We got to try local Icelandic dishes…..excellent seafood and lamb meat, and they were delicious. Pretty much all breakfasts and dinners.
On accommodations: The hotels and guesthouses were very good, but the main thing is that the accommodations were located near to coasts/fjords or highlands, so that the scenery around is just wonderful.
Jens is a very careful driver and made sure safety was a priority. He was also flexible in stopping for restroom breaks and snacks.
In summary, all I can say is that Iceland has to be on one’s bucket list, and Fun Travel Iceland is one of the best tour companies that I have gone on! I will go back again but, during the winter for the aurora borealis or northern lights!
