We did the Old Town (Gamla Stan) tour and then the Sodermalm one. Liked both because both guides were great: Connie and Vanessa. Liked the first one better, not because of the guide, but because of the place. I highly recommend this group.

Our tour guide was Marina. The tour was quite good (not the best I've been on to be honest) and informative e.g. Marina told us why Swedes don't use curtains or blinds - stating that under the Lutheran religion people were encouaged to look into each other's homes to see that everyone was living good, modest lives. (People then put... More

Never been to Stockholm so a walking tour was the best idea. And Nina did an excellent job, knowledgable and entertaining. There are two free tours, we had the new city tour. Wish we would have had more rime to also take the Old Town walking tour.

Despite the fact that the group was very large, Erika wore a microphone and made sure everyone could hear her. She walked at a good pace and everyone kept up. The tour was a great way to learn facts about Stockholm that you wouldn't necessarily find out walking round on your own. Definitely recommend this as a way of seeing... More

We did the free walking tour of Stockholm Old Town. Our tour guide Erika was very knowledgeable and friendly. She answered all the additional questions we had and even pointed out additional places and things that would find interesting. This is certainly the best way to visit and learn about the Old Town!

The free walking tour was a very good experience. The guide was very enthusiastic and had a lot of nice stories about the old city and Stockholm's history. Even though we were with a very big group (30+ people) everything was easily hearable because of the loudspeaker the guide used. The guide is there with a bunch of tips and... More

Subways in Stockholm are a sight seeing point in itself and this tour helps to get you started on that journey! Good way to explore this side of the city

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
