I know it's not cool to complain about a free tour but I was really disappointed. Our guide was uninteresting and hard to hear. We didn't get any background on the city or its history- we were literally led from one monument to another and told who the person was. The history didn't link together, there seemed to be no... Our guide, that was not Swedish (some will say that's not a problem but who knows better Stockholm than someone Swedish) did her best to lead us through the streets of the cities but she was not very informative nor very funny. We saw most of the old town points of interest but that was it. There is room for... More

How sad it is you did not enjoy the tour. But we would like to assure you, that the guide job as any job is nothing to do with nationality, it is about the passion of knowing and sharing the city history and culture. All the guides in our company are of the different countries origin with knowledges, ambitions and... More

First off, our guide was very energetic, even though it was cold and mucky out. He was easy to hear and excited to show us the town. Contrary to the website, he did not have an umbrella to be spotted easy or a speaker. I think if the group was larger, it would have been harder to hear him. Our... More

Succinct and interesting tour. Got to walk on more streets than I would have noticed on my own. Our guide was friendly and easy to understand. I would love to try another tour when I next visit Stockholm! I do recommend this tour, however I recommend to leave your suitcase behind because you may have to carry it up cobblestone... More

I enjoyed walking in the Old Town of Stockholm with a Free Walking Tour. They showed a lot of interesting places, told their stories and gave useful tips. I think, it is the best way to explore the city.

I joined the free walking tour with 40 other people. It was a big group but our guide, Nora, managed the group well and provided the history of some places and also recommended some interesting places for us to visit or have meals. Received a lot of useful information from the 2 hours tour. Good for people that have not... More

I took the Stockholm subway tour today, and I felt I could have learnt more or maybe have seen more things. In many occasions I couldn't hear the guide ( not to blame as the trains are quite loud), but it made it a bit more tiring. I don't think it was a very bad tour, but I think it... More

The tour started at the tube station in Gamla Stan and took about 1 hour and a half, we visited the Royal Palace, Opera and some interesting sites finishing at the site of the Stockholm syndrome robbery. The guide, Nora from Kirgistan, was knowledgeable, funny and gave us lots of information on Stockholm and the attractions we visited but also... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
