We love doing free walking tours when we visit a new city. Firstly, we find this the easiest way to get our boots on the ground. Secondly, with this type of tour the guide puts more effort in (passion) as they are doing it for tips. Erica was our guide for the Modern Stockholm tour and she was awesome. She... More

The information given by the host of the free walk tour was not too enlightening or interesting in my opinion. I did not care for the veiled negative comments about the people from my country. I am more than willing to pay 15$ for a good tour...free or not. I would rather pay extra for a tour guide with more... More

We had a great tour guide called Ryan (thanks again!) who was great - he took us through lots of the newer parts of town but intertwined it with history and lots of funny stories and anecdotes. Ryan was very funny and engaging and made it a great way to better understand the city, I definitely recommend this for getting... More

We did a "free" walking tour in Bruges last year so thought that we'd give this a try. The only difficulty with these tours are that the tour leader doesn't know how many people are going to turn up and as a result of this groups can be quite large. The tour took about an hour and showed us many... More

So we wanted to see the main highlights and hear a bit about the city and this ticked the boxes. Franco was a great tour leader.

We did the old town tour, meeting outside the tube station on Gamla Stan and got to see some interesting sites and pick up some snippets of information that you will not always get from a guidebook. My only observation is that the group was very large and with no microphone, it was a case of gathering close. However that... More

Our guide, that was not Swedish (some will say that's not a problem but who knows better Stockholm than someone Swedish) did her best to lead us through the streets of the cities but she was not very informative nor very funny. We saw most of the old town points of interest but that was it. There is room for... More

How sad it is you did not enjoy the tour. But we would like to assure you, that the guide job as any job is nothing to do with nationality, it is about the passion of knowing and sharing the city history and culture. Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
