On a city walking tour we came across the replica of St George and were told the original, which is carved out of oak, was in the cathedral. So of course that meant we had to return during our free time. We were not disappointed....More

This cathedral is quite large. It’s near the royal palace but not connected. The thing I liked the best were the huge statues and the sense of how things must have seemed in the church 500 years ago. It was a very nice experience.

Very well maintained beautiful church. Lots of history and great artwork and sculptures for a Swedish church. Easy to get to in old town

Stockholm Cathedral is a beautiful church located in the Old Town. The exterior is nothing fancy, but the interior is very beautiful and impressive.

The interior is amazing, with a mind bogglingly wonderful statue of St George killing the dragon (over life size) on the left of the high altar. The rest of the interior is astonishing and well worth looking at, we did not take a guided tour...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

It’s really not very big - smaller than some standard churches - and a decent guide book coupled with Google will tell you the chief facts. I wouldn’t say a guide was needed.

The visitor centers in Uppsala and Stockholm are incredibly helpful. Check out the schedules posted throughout both cities. The train stations are a great place to find good venues. Lots of beautiful music everywhere!
