An exceptional cultural experience. We learned so much about the Maori history and community. Our vacation to New Zealand would have been incomplete without this tour.

An exceptional cultural tour that surpassed our expectations in every way. Ranui Tamati-Parata, daughter to serving village elder, her mother, and past village Chief, her father, is articulate and a great story teller. Ranui is also an attorney and educated us on some of the legal challenges that the Maori face in maintaining and reclaiming their land. The family traces their Maori lineage back 17 generations of Maori natives and are devoted stewards of their land. Accompanied by her son, who gives award winning Maori dance shows in Roturua, they made a perfect duo. We saw the fabled blue and green lakes, pink white terraces from a distance, and their Village gathering center, which displayed beautiful artistic carvings. The tour concluded with a panoramic view of the land, rivers and bays atop their working farm, where Ranui and her son graciously served us hot tea from their modern, well appointed welcome cabana.

If you want a truly authentic experience, this is it. "Harry" shared his culture, his land, his history and more! An amazing time with a caring, funny, passionate guide. An experience we will not soon forget.

An excursion off the beaten track but poor in interest.
The 2 pictures on this page show the attractiveness of this excursion
A lot of exchange with a very nice maori but no typical organized visit
A simple tour in a luxury 4*4 in search of the beautiful view. No luck it was a rainy day
We retain the sympathy of the owner who is worth the 3 stars
To couple necessarily with another more typical visit

Far away from touristy performances, we gaint an authentic insight in the traditional Maori world thanks to our wonderful, lovable guide Hare (Harry?). Thank you so much for that extraordinary experience, for showing us very special, spiritual places, medicative plants, awesome views and, last but not least, singing for and with us!

I would highly recommend this very authentic, personal tour! Hare (alias Harry) knows so much and is so passionate about the culture of his people. He shares his own family history and Maori vision on life.

Wow....what an experience. We enjoyed the tour from the beginning to the end (which was way longer than 3 hours).
If you want a personal tour without al the theatre than this is to one. You can ask questions whenever you want and you can really learn about the beautiful Maori culture.

A must do!! I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Taru, who patiently retold the stories of his ancestors and his connection to the land. Such a personal recount of how the Maori people have lived and learned from the area for centuries. I would strongly urge anyone who is looking for a personalised, honest, “non-gimmicky” glimpse into historical and contemporary Maori life to take the tour! You most certainly not be disappointed! Thank you Taru!!

Had a very interesting tour with Hare. The tour covers Maori history, stories, carvings..up to modern topics such as preserving the family land for future generations. This is not a "theater" tour such as the various Maori village experencies, rather you get lots of explanations of the culture (and some very nice views of the lake) and you have the opportunity to ask all sorts of questions. Very interesting, and the guide went beyond the described tour to show me some additional spots of interest. It was possible to book just one day in advance, and the tour took place even though I was the only participant - much appreciated. The guide seemed to have a real interest in showing/explaining his culture and background, which was great. The experience felt more like having met someone who offered to show me around rather than a paid tour. I fully recommend this tour.
