Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Far away from touristy performances, we gaint an authentic insight in the traditional Maori world thanks to our wonderful, lovable guide Hare (Harry?). Thank you so much for that extraordinary experience, for showing us very special, spiritual places, medicative plants, awesome views and, last but not least, singing for and with us!

Minor information on Maori culture sitting with further 2 couples + guide in a medium sized car. 2 of 3 hours spent with driving round Lake Rotorua without any possibility to escape from german and dutch nursery rhyme singing guide. Expectations for such guided tour were definitely not met. Time and money spent were not worth that „experience“.

I would highly recommend this very authentic, personal tour! Hare (alias Harry) knows so much and is so passionate about the culture of his people. He shares his own family history and Maori vision on life.

Wow....what an experience. We enjoyed the tour from the beginning to the end (which was way longer than 3 hours).
If you want a personal tour without al the theatre than this is to one. You can ask questions whenever you want and you can really learn about the beautiful Maori culture.

A must do!! I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Taru, who patiently retold the stories of his ancestors and his connection to the land. Such a personal recount of how the Maori people have lived and learned from the area for centuries. I would strongly urge anyone who is looking for a personalised, honest, “non-gimmicky” glimpse into historical and contemporary Maori life to take the tour! You most certainly not be disappointed! Thank you Taru!!

My wife and I spent 3 hours with Patrick today. A genuine descendent of the original local Mauri people and steeped in his tribal and family history. A tour guide like no other we have ever met. So willing to share his knowledge and his passion for the broader understanding of Mauri culture. And that’s what we came for. Awesome !! … we throughly recommend any like minded folk to take this tour without any hesitation. You won’t be disappointed !!

A great insight into the local Māori culture. Patrick gave a very in depth and respectful overview of the traditions and the way in which the Māori community came together to express their beliefs and support each other. We also learned about how the treaty of Waitangi had an impact on the custodians of the land. Very informative. I would highly recommend this tour when visiting Rotorua.

I appreciated hearing from a local who could share generations of family knowledge and perspective about caring for the environment. If you want a formal tour with a linear historical narrative like in a museum, this is not for you. But if you want some authenticity and a chance to connect with someone as a human being who will answer any question openly, you can get your cup filled. Kia oro.
