Experience the unique joy of traveling along a railway line in your own powered self-drive railway vehicle, called a RailCruiser. The RailCruiser is a fully automated, state of the art petrol-electric four seat self-drive railway vehicle, with comfortable seats and unobstructed views. It is fitted with clear drop down waterproof sides. Departing from Mamaku Railway Station travel 10km through a majestic 1000 year old native forest, past rolling pastures with views out over Lake Rotorua to Tarukenga Railway Station. After a short break at Tarukenga whilst the RailCruisers are turned, you return in your RailCruiser back to Mamaku. Cruising along at 20km/hr, you can listen to the audio tour. This is the ultimate way to experience a railway.

We visited here today and this is the best attraction we have visited or down in Rotorua to date. Really enjoyable. Recommend to all young and old.

This is a very unique experience. Cars completely designed and manufactured in NZ despite the cars being about to be made far cheaper overseas. Great commentary and all weather proof.

There are several trips now available, but to travel through native bush with views over lake Rotorua in a driverless rail buggy has to beat them all. The automated commentary where the gps is used to trigger the messages as well as govern speed is...More

What a great innovation! These little trains take you on a wee journey of 19ks return through the native forest seeing Farmland and Lake Rotorua. The cars seat 4 people and are spaced apart giving you real enjoyment. A fun thing to do.

The trip takes you right through the middle of a local tropical reserve with great views and interesting flora and fauna. Definitely a great way to see the local area. The local couple who own this are rebuilding an old railway. However, unlike most heritage...More

We arrived early and were welcomed by the host, given a short safety briefing and then we boarded our cruiser. The journey was pleasant even in the cold conditions. The scenery is pleasant but not spectacular and the experience is unique. My one criticism would...More
