Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A summer treat for Ganpa and Na'ma with the grand kids. A bit of trout fishing and lake front beach time then up to the Chalet to cook up dinner for everyone. There is a small kitchen with enough cooking supplies to fix a great meal or you can rent a BBQ or bring your own portable BBQ. For the past two years we have caught up with friends we met 3 years ago. They fly in from Australia so we bring plenty of bikes for the 5 kids to ride and they entertain themselves in a safe atmosphere. There is that 70's Boat that I think still does charters for parties and possibly fishing.

A lovely walk along the Eastern side of Okataina - the full walk to the top of Lake Tarawera is 10.5km one way. A good mix of bush/lake views and terrain. Not many places to have a swim but a lovely beach at the old Pa site. Definitely recommended if you want a medium intensity walk/hike

Checkout the walks on the website link to DOC for this location.
The first 2 walks there were our favorites, tho the walk along the left side of the lake is also more attractive than the Lake Tarawera lakeside walk to the lake hot pools, even if this lake doesn't offer any hot pools. The moss covered waterfall on the first of the walks noted was beautiful and the native bush and views of the 2 small lakes on the second walk magnificent.

Set in a valley between Lake Rotoiti and Lake Tararewa this is a magical place away from traffic and other distractions. Beautiful walk beside the lake which can lead to Tarawera. Bird life is rife with bellbirds and tuis. There is a lodge for overnight stays.

Cool old school techy trail.
Deep guts in places, expect to hike a bike here and there.
I found the trail challenging but enjoyable.

It made for a good change of scenery.

Stayed at Lake Okataina lodge over the weekend for my husbands work-do. It's the 4th time we have been there which confirms what a great place it is.
Such a beautiful, secluded and peaceful location to wind down. The rooms are large and beds super comfy.

Our group chose to hire the lodge boat and went out for an afternoon trout fishing, clay bird shooting and a delicious bbq dinner.

Special mention to Nic, Malcolm and Ella for excellent customer service!

Hope to return again one day :-)

I found this walking track accidently from a eco document. It is around 20 mins driving from Rotorua. 7 km away from Rotoiti.

It is an around 40 mins walking of Te Auhake walking track. a little pretty water falls called "caskade"there. Very nice quiet place.

I enjoyed this walking.
