Overview
More
Being in the heart of the city’s urban environment and hosted in a historic building of the early 20th century, the War Museum of Thessaloniki has had active presence since the first year of its operation in 2000. It hosts nine permanent exhibitions with over 10,000 historical relics and heirlooms, and is a comprehensive museum of modern Greek history and culture. Visitors have the chance to see a vivid representation of modern Greek history, starting from the pre-Independence War period through to the late 20th century. In this historical frame, the visitor interacts with relics from different nations that took part in all the eras as enemies or allies of the Greek Armed Forces. The museum relics include: original manuscripts, maps, paintings, medals, clothing, flags, weapons and more. Also the Museum staff offer thorough guided tours and help the visitors experience and understand the essence of history and its link to the modern world.

An interesting museum that didn't know existed in Thessaloniki. It is nice but could be a little more interesting by being a little more organised and with more information. Still is a nice place to visit

If you're into military history, this is the place for you. I loved the paintings and the dioramas that depict the Greek Army's victories over the Turks and Italians over the last several hundred years. The display of old weaponry and vehicles is also fascinating.

Fabulous way to spend a while. Not very large but packed with very interesting historical pieces from primarily WWII. Only 4 Euros entry is a worthy price to pay.

Very good display of weapons except several missing parts. MG34 without flash hider, G3 in horrible condition when Greece makes them there, English Sten gun in possession of German paratrooper. No air condition on upper floors makes it almost impossible to visit and spend time...More

This museum is just near a Greece army camp in the middle of Thessaloniki. Most of the artifacts are very well presented and descriptions are in Greece AND English language. Good overview about Balkan Wars, first and second world war.
