Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A challenging 2-3 hour hike/climb to the mountaintop with the ruins of the Temple of Zeus. When leaving Embonas to the south you will find a small rural road going to the left after roughly 200m. Then, follow this road upward (as indicated with red marks and stone piles, which you can follow until the top) into the vineyards. At some point you will come to the end of the vineyards with a fence, there will be a small staircase to climb over. Then follow the middle valley, full of instable rocks and stones. This is the most challenging part, be careful! Finally, you will reach a few trees near the top where walking gets easier again. Go to the right from the tree and walk to the top, where you will find the forgotten and abandoned temple ruins of Zeus. During the walk you will get cheered on by some mountain goats. The ruins themselves are pretty impressive, but it is especially the view and the sense of accomplishment which is rewarding. Follow the same path back, but again be very careful with the instable rocks and stones.

We had hired a car and hoped to drive up to the temple. Alas the poor car would not make the very bumpy loose dirt track and we had to turn around. We didn’t attempt the walk.

Rated as 5 * because we don’t know.

My hubby and I wanted to complete the ascent of Mount Attaviros as we had not seen the Temple of Zeus when we attempted it two years ago so we had picked a cloudy day as we thought it would not be too hot as its quite a climb. Unfortunately the cloud hung around the top of the mount for most of the climb and it was also quite cool and wet at times (please think ahead and wear appropriate clothing). However, we made it to the top and were glad that we had made the effort to find the Temple ruins. The skies cleared for us to take some photos and then we made our way back down. It took us about 4 hours in total. We had driven about two-thirds of the way up and then walked the rest of the way as we did not want to damage our rental car as the road does get quite treacherous in places and we were treating our rental car as if it were our own, others were not as careful and drove passed us without a care!!

If you do attempt the climb please wear suitable clothing and obviously take a lot of water with you.

We met two groups of people who were looking for the "Observatory" which we were not aware of other than the Army radar which can be seen from quite a distance and which looks like a huge golf ball. Because it was so cloudy we had no idea in which direction the "Observatory" was so could not assist the two groups.

All in all it was a good hike and for anyone who likes walking, we think you will enjoy it.

Pictures looked nice and interesting. We were in the area and planned to go here by car since it’s quite a distance from anything else. We came from the west side and after a few kms the road turned into a dirt road which was undriveable with a regular car.

Well worth thd trip we made it to the top in a audi a3 convertible so you can drive all the way but it is slightly challenging in places. Starts tarmac then goes gravel but keep going it does go back to tarmac and once at the top its amazing, look left next to large white golf ball and you will see the temple. The clouds were all around us and it was so peaceful a must if your in roads.
