We walked the entire breakwater one evening - a 4 km round trip. I took my students out for a stroll one evening on our trip. The harbour was pleasant and the walk allowed us to have a leisurely stroll and get to know each...More

We went into the fort which was excellent and well laid out and did walk the 1-2 km to the end of the jetty and breakwater. It was a pleasant day and it was good to be able to look back on the town from...More

The Old Venetian Harbor is absolutely beautiful. We just wandered around and absorbed the atmosphere. There are some lovely restaurants and cafes in the area where you can have a few drinks and some tasty Cretan meals. You will not regret it. A place not...More

The street map of Heraklion shows how the city expanded outward from the Old Venetian Harbor. To us, the harbor was the most interesting part of the city with boats ferrying passengers or coming and going from the calm, protected waters for fishing or cruises....More

From the beautiful blue sky to the beautiful blue sea. Such a beautiful view from the Harbour wall. Fishing boats moored in the harbour, with The Venetian fortress on the jetty. Walk and explore - this is truly an awe inspiring place. Loved it here.

We walked from the Old Venetian Fortress the 2km to end of the Pier and back . A total of 4kms. The views out to the bay and Aeroplanes taking off from the Airport across the bay make this an interesting walk and well worth...More

A short stroll down the pedestrianized 25th Avgoustou St. brings you to the Venetian Harbor and its iconic fortress. Evidently, the Republic of Venice bought the city of Candia (present day Heraklion) in 1204, which started its centuries-long domination and building spree. This is definitely...More

What a great spot this is! We first saw the fortress and the harbor the morning after arriving back in 2014. We were staying in a suite at Lato Boutique Hotel and the view overlooked this great fortress of Koules. Nearby tours, restaurants, shops, the...More

You can explore along the harbour wall, as well as enter the fortress adjacent to it. There is a roof section where you can take pictures facing the city and the ocean.
