Next to the Firka fortress, keep walking around for 3oo m approximately to the Byzantine museum. It a small museum well presented filled with art of another era. You can see art spanning for 1000 years. This is a different point of view of Hellenic...More

Chania has som good museums , perfect for the person who 'doesn't do museums' - small and compact - or for the person who is genuinely interested in Minoan or Byzantine culture. The Byzantine museum just up from the far end of the harbour is...More

Small but perfectly formed. Items from tiny coin to wall paintings and large icons. Well laid out and good explanatory panels

This is a very small collection of art and mosaics. It is worth a short visit when in Chania. It is slightly challenging to find as it is in a small building behind the fortress so watch carefully for the signs.

A different world view of golden haloed saints and Angels painted iridescent colours. A pleasure to gaze on and wonder at.

Chania's Byzantine Collection is housed in the former Venetian church of San Salvatore. It is a small but exquisite collection of icons of very high quality. What fascinated us was to see the influence the Venetian occupation and its art had on Cretan icon painting....More

We enjoyed our brief visit. There is only one small room with items in cases and some icons and mosaics. Spent one hour looking around, very enjoyable and great value for money at 2€ each I think.
