Great for jet boat ride and canoeing

A beautiful river with many options for canoeing (up to 7 days), jet boating, mountain bike riding (but part is passable by boat only) or, in parts, driving.

Everything about this trip was wonderful. The last time I drove the river road from Wanganui (22 years ago) it was unsealed and very slow. Now it is a pleasure to drive this scenic route to the settlement of Pipiriki where we were welcomed by our jet boat driver, Shane. On the trip up the river he pointed out historic... More

Glorious weather helped make this a great trip. Jet boat up river is a journey through stunning scenery, you get taken back in time, it's so unspoilt. Stopped for an easy bush walk (30-35 mins) to the Bridge to Nowhere which is worth visiting for historical value. Back to jet boat after picnic lunch, short whizz down river to pick... More

My friends and I stopped here on the Whanganui Canoe Journey. We pulled into the second mooring for the hike which is up the small tributary just a few minutes past the main mooring. I wouldn't actually recommend this option, although the walk is shorter, because it is very steep and muddy until you hit the main track. It was... More

We arrived at the Bridge to Nowhere after mountain biking 42km from Whakahoro via the Kaiwkakauka Track (20km climb) and then joining the Mangapurua Track (essentially 22km of down hill on an old farm track) to finally arrive at the Bridge to Nowhere. Took 3 hours to reach the Mangapurua Trigg (stopped on the way to check out the Blue... More

We had a fabulous night at "Bridge to Nowhere" friendly staff, great service, a wonderful meal , breakfast & packed lunch. We were a party of 10 biking "Mountains To Sea" The jet boat ride was really good, Jo was on time, in fact waiting for us after we rode the Mangapurua track. A great place to stop the night.... We were exploring New Zealand and made a side trip to the Bridge to Nowhere and stayed at the lodge. We were traveling in a large rented Campervan and were relieved that Joe allowed us to park in a secure, private yard. The jet boat ride to the bridge was surprisingly smooth, with breathtaking views as you traveled up the... More

After an interesting car drive up the Whanganui River road we started our Jetboat trip at 10.30am going up the river taking in the amazing scenery of this canyoned river and listening to the history of this remote and abandonded farmland at the Bridge ,a No 1 Heritage site. Having rafted there 31 yrs previously, we were amazed at it's... More

The boat landing site was probably the most challenging to tackle from a kayakers perspective due to the volume of people. Get there early and have a reasonably plan for getting back on the river on return. The walk up to the site was an easy 25 minute bush walk and our group made some stops on the way for... More
