Highest Church in Athens
Jul 2021
This whitewashed little Church, reminding on those on Cyclades, stands atop the highest point in the Greek capital - the Lycabetus Hill. Therefore it is visible from all over Athens.
The Church is very cute, with nice interiors and dedicated to St. George killing the dragon. It's bell tower is across the Church towards the viewpoint.

Gleaming on the hilltop
Feb 2020
There are a number of marvellous aspects to atop Mount Lycabettus and this Chapel is one. Seeing it on a Sunday afternoon framed against the deep azure of the sky, we though it looked its best.

Stepping to the interior is to admire a proliferation of frescoes and icons. All silver St. George on his horse slaying the dragon is dramatic.

A fine iconostasis separates the holy sanctum from the worshippers. The dome was infused with light, adding a celestial feel.

Great views
Mar 2019 • Couples
We took the cable cart up to the top!

There were some great views and you are able to have a look inside the old chapel.

Once you’ve had a look around there isn’t anything else up there apart from a bar. If the sun is out it would be great to chill and have some drinks but It was too windy.

I will review the restaurant on their trip adviser I personally wouldn’t recommend.

Pretty chapel high above the city
Sep 2019 • Friends
The Chapel of St George sits overlooking the city atop Lycabettus Hill. It's a beautiful setting with history. The view is worth the hike, and it's a long hike up and down.

QUAINT AND BEAUTIFUL
Sep 2019
This little white church stands at the very top of Lycabettus Hill. It is very quaint and worth viewing while you are there. It's beautifully decorated inside with paintings and murals and it's exterior crosses light up at night if you're there for the Sunset.

CHAPEL OF SAINT GEORGE LYCABETUS
Dec 2019
This small-whitewashed chapel, located atop Lycabettus hill, can be seen over a vast area around Athens. This Orthodox chapel, dedicated to the dragon slayer, rebuilt in the 19th century replaced a church dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. There is a marker inside the chapel on a portrait of Father Louloudakis. The bell tower sits a short distance from the chapel itself.

Amazing chapel on one of the highest points of Athens. We will definitely go back and visit Athens. Our guide was wonderful and patient and brought us to places we would never have gone too.

HIGH UP ABOVE ATHENS
Jul 2019
A definite MUST visit for a journey to Athens ... high up on the tallest hill yet close to town you get a spectacular view up here .. the atmosphere is very nice and there is a great cafe for those who want to linger. You can get a kind of cable car to the top and walk down the hill which is a super nice walk. Don't miss its worth it .. you can also go at nighttime = amazing. We LOVE Athens.

Decorated Chapel
Oct 2019
It's a very elaborate chapel with decoration all over the walls and ceiling. It's situated on top of the Lycabettus Hill so you'll need to get to the top to see it.

There's a large picture on the wall of St George killing the dragon - all in Silver, very impressive.
