This majestic statue of Dom Pedro, who became king of Portugal in 1826, towers over Rossio Square. It is one of the better monuments to Portugal's past.

Many birds around. But the best part is that this is where you can get on a bus to most corners of the city. 500 is a great choice. Also, lots of god and cheap bars and restaurants a few blocks away.

The Dom Pedro IV statue at the Rossio is on top of a high column. This king was proclaimed king in 1826. He also became the first king of the independent Brazil.

Liberdade Square is one of the main squares in Oporto and there is the equestrian statue of Pedro IV. In the background one can see the City Hall on the hill.
