The church was nice, but nothing special. The pictures on the outer wall were nice to look at, but there are several churches like this in Porto.

Built in the 18th century for Carmelite monks, the exterior walls are beautifully finished in azulejos (tiles) and the interior was also beautiful. For a small fee you can also visit the "hidden house" which is only approx 1 meter wide and has just 1...More

This is one of the finer examples of churches in Porto. It dominates the square which is surrounded by museums, churches and parks. Well worth a visit

This is actually two churches located wall to wall, with the so called Hidden House crammed between them. The hidden house is like a three room apartment within the church structure, with one room on each floor. The church interior is quite small and has...More

I accidentally noticed and was fascinated with this church, across from the No. 18 tram station. As the picture shows whole exterior walls are covered with beautiful blue-and-white tiles they call Azulejos. So I went close and looked at them closer. They elaborately tell stories...More

From the tile mural on the outside, to the gilded inside, this church blew me away. With such a central location, you have no excuse to miss this.

You do not have to be a religious person to enjoy the beautiful church of Carmo. Its facade is a work of art as well as its altar and its chapels. A must in Porto

I haven't see anything like this anywhere else in Europe. The side of the church is covered in painted tiles. You could stare at the details for hours.
