It was interesting. Not much to see inside. If you have limited time only go thru the castle next door.

We came rather unprepared for the trip to Portugal and did not know much about its history. Guimaraes appears to be the birthplace of the today's nation of Portugal, with this particular castle playing its part in history. Whilst the castle is rather unattractive, mostly...More

I don't think I have ever seen or entered such a real Castle, it looks every inch real, and walking through you can imagine soldiers manning the place, and preparing to engage the enemy. There is also an exhibition worth visiting.

The castle has a great view, entry is cheap (1 € for students) and looks impressive from the out- and inside

This was so important to the history of Portugal that you think it would be filled with information. But actually is very humble and simple.

Entrance fee is just 2 Euros. There are not much interesting sections of the castle to see, but at least from the wall are some parts of the town visible.
