I wanted somewhere peaceful to be to remember my deceased loved ones. The church is small, beautiful, and has penchant playing throughout the day. Bliss

If you are making the uphill trek to Santa Clara Monastery or the Frederico de Freitas Museum you will pass this typical 16th Century Church. The interior is lovely, with beautiful azulejo tiles lining the walls. When I visited during the afternoon there were several...More

Lovely traditional Catholic Portuguese Church. Absolutely stunning interior. This is a must see. Fantastic detail. Not far from main centre. Beautiful!

An oasis of peace in the relatively cacophonous streets of Funchal - especially when the cruise boats come in. Typically cool and ostentatious interior.

Traditional Catholic Church with beautiful tiled walls and highly decorated nave and altar. Don't walk by, walk in and enjoy the peace for 5-10 minutes.

Very nice and authentic church. Beautiful wooden ceiling with paintings on it. The church-walls are covered with typical portuguese tiles. (Azulejas)

A very plain building outside. Every time I have passed by this church the door has been closed, but on this visit my timing was better. The inside is stunning. Worth visiting if you are passing at the right time.
