Sintra's old tram service to the coast was delightful, taking you from the town to the beach at little more than walking pace. Step back in time to a simpler age

The tram is loud and slow, but a lovely way to travel if there's no rush and it wasn't expensive (8euros for our family). We arrived 20 mins early and there was space on a hot weekend, but it's a fairly long wait between trams....More

I can't think of a better way to get to the beach from Sintra. Pop into the nearby ticket office to buy your ticket and then relax of the slow journey down to Pria Das Macas, taking in the sights. Ok, it's a bit noisy,...More

We enjoyed this trip very much, but there was an unexpected problem- it’s very noisy! The tram is really old, so it creaks awfully while turning. But the nature is beautiful, so anyway, you’ll enjoy it

Makes for an interesting ride throughout the older parts of Lisbon. However, we waited 45 minutes to alight, then not all passengers were able to sit.

Excellent trip. This tram goes from the Sintra City to the beaches. Along the way the scenery is breathtaking and as the tram is slow it gives even a poor photographer time to take excellent photos. Everyone should try this fantastic trip in an original...More

Fun little tram ride through the countryside that will take you to the "locals" beach. There are several restaurants in town, i can recommend Villa Caca

The tram usually runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (even in the winter) so as May 1st is a Tuesday I'm afraid it probably isn't running - sorry! But as it's a public holiday there may be a special service - I have seen... More

Yes, we live in Praia das Maçãs (the terminus of the tram), and confirm that it runs year round. During May, service is mostly regular (about every two hours, nearly every day) and during the winter months, it slows down... More
