Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great maritime museum, well worth a visit. Excellent displays, and lots to learn . Take the time to watch the National Geographic video. A beautiful building, well set out, delightful, helpful lady on reception. Small museum, SO pleased we went.

We stuck our heads in the door of this small museum to be welcomed by wonderfully warm staff who took the time to take us round the fascinating exhibits. It's fairly small, perhaps 7 or 8 rooms, but has some interesting models and artefacts and is well set up to help kids explore and understand. In one room is an 13 minute (edited down) 1968 national geographic DVD about Portuguese fishing which we found completely fascinating to learn more about the history of local fishing. Refusing any donations at the end and just thanking us for visiting it's well worth 30 mins of your time!

The guide was excellent and explained everything very well. As well as the fishing aspects there was the social history side of men opting for 6 month fishing trips in Alaska rather than enter the war, the educational side of local schools being involved in caring for the sea, the biological collections etc etc

Located in Buarcos adjacent to Figueira da Foz this small museum offers a fascinating insight into local maritime history, focusing principally on the fishing industry.
The endurance, resilience and sacrifices of local fishermen and their families are clearly presented, together with information and displays of boats, equipment and dress.
Our guide Rita was excellent and spoke fluent English.
Given its size, a visit (free of charge) needs less than an hour but is well worth it.

Despite being a fairly small sea oriented centre, it is well organized and worth being visited, namely by children and adolescents, who might learn a lot about the various fishing techniques and types of fishing boats pertaining to the area, as well as the artistry related to cod fishing. Some of the boat replicas (miniatures) are particularly nice.
