The best way to get here is by bus, once on top buy tickets and walk through the main plaza where the chapel and library are. In a clear day you can take beautiful pictures of the city since it is one of the highest...More

I drove from Lisbon to Coimbra, not far at all. and went up hill to the center of the universities of Coimbra. They are all old and beautifull constructions, and at the end off the square you can have a great overall view of good...More

While my wife and I were in Coimbra for one day only we didn't get to visit too many of the sights, but we were delighted to get a tour of the university. A modern, highly accredited university with a seven hundred plus years of...More

Little seems to be known about the fact that the University has been a place of inspiration for J.K. Rawlings for her writing of the Harry Potter books. The rules and the student habits are charmingly similar to Hogwarts. The wands are missing. It is...More

Absolutely unmissable. If you are short on time, I would recommend prioritizing the Joanina Library and Saint Michael's Chapel. The Royal Palace is also nice.

This was a unplanned surprise on our visit to Coimbra. The goal was to see the library but that required a ticket which gave entry to the library, the Royal Chapel and the former Palace-all part of this lovely university. The history of the university...More

During our sightseeing I kind of entered this place via secret door and I explored those beautiful hallways and library. I loved the feeling of being there kind of illegaly but of course I just looked and wandered around.

I taught at a university born in the 1960s for 30 years. This University has 1000+ year of tradition. The beauty of the University and its impact on the city are wonderful. Totally enjoyed the visit. The science museum was a little weaker.

The university buildings are varied and interesting, and the library is unmissable. The best thing, however, is getting a feel for student life within the university and the gorgeous town of Coimbra surrounding it. You could do the university in a day but you will...More

It is considered a "must see" when you go to Coimbra. The visit does not take that long. I would allow 1-1.5 hrs there. Is there any other places you would like to visit while you there? It was all we did. Old town is always... More

Hello! If you want to take the guided tour, or traveling with a big group you may book it in advance. If not you may take the ticket and visit the University at your convenience.
