Some Franciscan friars arrived and settled at a small hermitage outside Coimbra dedicated to Saint Anthony of Egypt. Saint Anthony began here his franciscan life after leaving the Canons Regular of St. Augustine.

There is some kind of chamr to the Igreja de Santo Antonio dos Olivais, though old it is clearly a beautiful structure.

Coimbra has so many wonderful Churches and the St. Anthony of the Olives is no exception. Fantastic architecture, beautiful carvings make this a deserved destination whether just for visiting or for quiet contemplative prayer

Located in the Coimbra suburb of Santo Antonio dos Olivais, the church is small, reflecting that it is after all a parish church. It is well worth a visit and there is a graveyard alongside with numerous mausoleums.

It is perfect. Very relaxed, with a beautiful view on the neighboring hills. Quite far from the center of the city and on a hill, take e.g. bus no. 7 or 7T.
