Well worth the time to visit and tour. Many of the Harry Potter buildings and ideas came from this university. The old library is wonderful. Take a guided tour, you will learn so much.

We visited the library and yes it is indeed amazing however we did not find it to be as amazing as the library in the monastery in Mafra. The details of this library are indeed amazing however the size is not as large as Mafra....More

Historic library. The tours are great, with well informed guides and is quite inexpensive. I recommend it.

Spectacular place; all the old book in the library are stunning. Love the place, the Library is a special place to visit, also the university of Coimbra.

University of Coimbra, the few in the world that started globalization! Centuries of knowledge written, not virtual! There are no adjectives to give. For centuries the University that formed Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Macau, Goa-India and which trained half of the World.

Lot of effort for little reward. Too controlled for what is ultimately the purpose of the visit. Have to visit the prison - empty rooms. Then the ‘working’ library before you get THE LIBRARY. And then you are limited to 10 Minutes.

This is one of the most beautifull library in the world. Over 500 years old, the assets are incredible and the barroque decor is jaw dropping.

You should not have to pre book. Arrive earlier and look for the ticket office at the University entrance. The library is close to ticket office within the walls of the old university. As you certainly know, the... More
