Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well…you won’t see anything that you can’t experience by walking around the canals, but it was nice to see the city from the water.
However our guide was horrible! Yelling ALL THE TIME, telling inappropriate jokes - even singing ‘Who let the dogs out’. He nearly ruined the trip! Don’t really think this is worth the money, but it is a thing you should do when in Aveiro 🤷🏻♀️

We started our daytrip in Aveiro with a boattrip, which immediately gave us a good overview of the city. The old part of the city with the salt warehouses and the new part of the city with the very nice and modern buildings.

Where to start ???????
We had read that this small town in Portugal was worth the trip because it was almost comparable to Venice.
We knew this comparison was overrated, but we decided to go with it.
We chose the Onda'Colossal company to travel the canals by boat.
We quickly realized that the visit would be of poor quality because our pseudo guide did not seem to know any more than us. These 45 minutes seemed interminable and the heavy jokes of this pseudo guide got the better of us.
What to remember from this boat excursion:
- Joke about the yellow vests in France with mockery of the French on this subject (I recall in passing that one of the leaders of this movement is Franco-Portuguese (Jérome Rodrigues)
- Jokes about the French president
- Presentation of Mc Do as the best restaurant in town
- Presentation of another restaurant reserved for those who can afford it.
- Denigration of his work which for him does not have one (him a former sailor sinner).
As for culture, well nothing, we got off the boat with the same level of knowledge as at the start.
I remain convinced that this excursion could have been of real interest, but for pity's sake, we must send this pseudo guide back to his fishing boat where he will certainly be much more competent.
In the interest of your company and for the information of readers of this review, I had to inform you.
Yours sincerely

Horrible experience. Our hotel booked this tour for us, specifically requesting an english speaking guide. While our Portuguese language skills are coming along we are still in the learning stages so this was appreciated. We gave the ticket taker our tickets, told him we were there for the english speaking tour and were directed to a boat where several other people were sitting. When we boarded the boat the "guide" asked us if we spoke Spanish, I said not really we are here for the english tour. He then directed us and another english speaking couple to the back of the boat and never once approached us again. He spent time with one couple seated near us, and others sitting at the front of the boat speaking Spanish and Portuguese to them while completely ignoring us and the other english speaking couple. I also use the term "guide" loosely as this guy spent most of his time talking with the motor operator, literally 1 foot away from us and not one glance, not one acknowledgement. I live in Portugal and I know it is important to learn the language of the country you live in but this was a very touristy excursion offered IN ENGLISH! We were very disappointed and let our hotel concierge know just how awful this was. You have many options for tours of the canal, I strongly suggest you choose anyone other than Ondo.

Very disappointed. We expected much better for the Award paid (15€ per person). The walk is long for what little we have seen of the city. The Guide's explanations were unhelpful, rare and very general. In the end, we spent most of the time along places where there was nothing to see except cars (roads and parking). We saw the same thing when we left by car from the road...

It is not worth taking the trip with this company. A sad round trip by gondola along the canal, with 3 poor explanations of the city that do not last 15 seconds. For nasa recommended. Appalling. Bad service.

I hesitated if to spend almost an hour for this tour and I'm glad I take it. I choose the plain tour that lasted 45 minutes. it started from the old city and then continue to the new city. It was interesting with the explanation of the guide we had. The boats are nice with the special decoration and the price of 8 euro for each person is faire enough. I must say that it is not a "must" but pleasant way to know the place.

We had an enjoyable tour of the Aveiro canals. Our guide was able to tell us about the history of the canals, the flat bottom boats, and surrounding area and buildings, making sure everyone received the information in their language of choice.

When you have parked the car into the underground car park of the “Forum” in Aveiro, you go to the roundabout on the bridge, don´t forget to look at the statues on it, and then turn right, and you will arrive on the location where you can buy a ticket for a trip on the river in an original and ancient boat called “Moliceiro” the price for an adult is 8€ and the trip takes about minutes, and it is worth the visit, here you will see the history on the city, this is a part of the visit of the city of Aveiro
