Aveiro is traditionally a fishin village with traditional Portuguese fishing architecture. The municipaly has cleaned up the town, opened numeorus restaurants, organized activities and turned it into a very nice tourist spot.

A beautiful city. With its canals and its typical boats and its gastronomy. The beauty of architecture is notorious in the new art buildings. The city can be easily reached on foot.

Aveiro is superb town halfway from Coimbra to Oporto. It is well known by it's Canals where the beautiful 'moliceiros', a very typical local boats, sail round. In the center there are beautiful buiIdings even a few in 'Art Nouveau' style. It also well known...More

Pretty touristy, but quite unique. Loved the art nouveau architecture. Make sure to visit the salt farms & also to get out to Costa Nova, both remarkable in their own. way.

Basically, Aveiro ticks most boxes. It is a really pleasant city, ideal for strolling, taking it all in, with something for all tastes. One thing to note is, if you don't do the 10 euro 45 minute boat trip, then you haven't really seen the...More

Maybe heightened by reviews of the place, quite disappointed. It is not even close to Venice. To be fair, it’s a small coastal town with its old character. A short stop over for a photo opt will suffice.

I was disappointed with Aveiro. It was not the best day to see it and due to the rain we did not venture far. However, it would not have enticed me to venture far anyway. The buildings looked dreary and not kept up to any...More

To be honest I was excited to see the city after a lot great reviews I read and documentaries I saw on TV. But after a four hour visit and a long stroll my impression and expectations weren’t full filled. Yes it’s a nice cute...More

Got stuck here for 2 nights because of bad logistics planning. Stayed at MELIÁ, second floor, view on the parking lot. It seems to be one of the few hotels that still have no coffee or tea facility in the room. Terrible!

I was on a tour of Portugal from the North to South and we stopped at Aveiro for lunch. clearly in the past Aveiro was based on salt production, fish and seaweed harvesting and there was still evidence of that. Colourful boats like gondolas ply...More

There are a few good sites but cant post them here. Tripad wont let me. We are dissapointed with Aveiro. Better go to Venice or Amsterdam. The city is ok but the boat tour is like Las Vegas, very artificial.
