This is the very known place for sailors to meet during their atlantic crossings. You can see many boats coming from all over the word and stopping here for a day or 2 for repairs and relaxing. Here you can really get into the feeling...More

The harbour walls are famous for the paintings left by the sailors travelling across the Atlantic. Sir Francis Chichester in his boat Gypsie Moth called in here.

Horta offers something for everybody. The view from the harbor is stunning, the atmosphere is relaxed and the architecture is sublime. Go before it becomes too touristy!

Very nice marina. Safe place. There is so many paintings on the walls and floor, hardly any space to be seen, just spent a couple hours leisurely walking the pier and read all about the sailors from different countries. Lots of restaurants and shopping areas...More

Enjoyed looking at the art and the boats. Quite a few activities available nearby, like whale watching and diving.

A nice little harbour which is clean enough for the local kids to swim in. Around the harbour are little pictures/flags for boats which have stopped there. From here you get a good view of Pico, assuming it's not covered in cloud.

We walked through the Marina, on our way for Gellato. The outside edges of the Marina walls are decorated with pictures/plaques showing the dates and names of sailors who have completed their journeys. We enjoyed reading some of the colourful ones, on our way past.

Our cruise ship had tendors into the main dock area. Stroll down the main drag for shops and restaurants, and this neat marina area. A big tradition that staff from ships of all kinds create a painting here. Very interesting to see the variety.

The harbour and breakwater are festooned with paintings that visiting yachtsmen have left. It was fascinating to read about a family (or two or three) that stopped by on their sailing trip around the world. Or those who did the same trip, solo. Other harbours...More

Boardwalk walking tour, interesting but not a must do. Certainly there are other more interesting ways to spend one's time in Horta
