I visited on my own and found the area strangely spooky. Not sure why. There was nothing to be afraid of and the vegetation and views of Pico, Faial and the cruel crater are simply stunning. Well worth the drive to the top. It takes...More

Late October visit, didn't think it would be so cold. Impressive hole, desolate, barren and with hidden beauty, it is well worth the drive up.

The drive to the Caldeira that day was in the fog but when we got to the top and looked into the caldeira, the sun peaked out and we were able to see it in its full glory.

Had to time this for a good viewing....weather was so fickle. But what a wonderful view when clear! You are in the clouds, so expect some changeable weather conditions.

With about 25 other Saga travellers I visited this site. The views of it and from it are great. On a clear day you can see the nearby island of Pico. Our guide told us that what had happened here in Faial would, in due...More

We didn't get good weather when we stopped by here, but we were still able to see how incredible it was. Parking lot on site, that I'm sure is usually full of rental cars and tour vans. There are hiking paths along the rim of...More

What an amazing walk! I kept saying to my wife on the day, "this is the most scenic hike I have ever done in my entire life" and I have traveled allot. The photos struggle to capture how beautiful the walk really was. The flowers...More

This place is truly the pinnacle of the Azores. On a sunny day you'll have the fantastic view over to Mount Pico at the same time as looking into the volcano crate. We went 3 times, as the first 2 times it was low clouds...More

We have been there and did the walking trail around the crater which took us 2.5 hours. The view is beautiful and almost like from an airplane. We suggest good shoes and dry weather. On rainy days the trail might be very slippery at some...More

We hiked around the caldeira on a sunny day and absolutely enjoyed the 360° view of Faial. The caldeira itself is overwhelmingly beautiful and the path leads you right along the edge giving you a nice view of the vegetation. The route was very quiet...More

I hope you have booked a hotel. Then you can ask your hotel to help you contact a tour agent. Or you can search for one on TripAdvisor. People there are all very kind and helpful and they work well as tour agents. Websites... More

I do not think it will be a big problem for someone with mild vertigo. The view point at the start of the trail is probably as close as you will come to looking down over the edge. Recommend you wear good shoes and bring a... More

You can see it all with Bruno from Toboga Azores! Look him up! He took us absolutely everywhere in one day on Faial ... Because that was all we had! It's worth it if you can get him! Best guide around and dirt cheap!
