An interesting hour spent there. The history - the development of the Island, Whaling, Transatlantic cables, transatlantic crossings etc is well laid out.

This is a cute little museum in Horta with interesting exhibits on the history of communication and air transportation related to the island (it played a more important role in early transatlantic transportation than I realized!), religious paintings, and some fascinating "sculptures" made of fig...More

The museum is part of the large Jesuitical complex and houses a large variety of items. Most striking are the sculptures made of fig tree kernel and Horta as the centre of aviation and telecommunication in the Atlantic. Free entry on Sundays.

We visited the museum quickly during the afternoon. The collection of antiques from the comunication cable period was quite interesting.

A well put place with lots of stories to tell. I loved the fact that it was so quiet and had lots of videos explaining the struggles and giving the visitor a taste of how life evolved on the island. I recommend it ☺ TH

It took me longer to find this place than it did to go round. The room with the fig tree carvings I found the most interesting. The rest I glossed over although I know one other lady in our group found the other bits very...More
