Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Caldas is a quaint little town with unusual rock formations right besides the roadside parking. It has beautiful little boutiques of crafts. The restaurants are a bit pricy knowing it is the tourists that will be willing to pay for it. The walk around the water source is very peaceful. Monchique is also a very nice town to visit. The restaurants are very good and not overpriced. We enjoyed our visit.

It is a hotel complex composed of different buildings. At the time of our visit, some buildings are undergoing renovations. I really do hope that they put clearly visible signs by now as you will definitely get lost. We also did not fins any staff to ask when we parked near the chapel.
The thermal spa is located downhill and we walked passed the bar and restaurant through the garden and swimming pool. We only noticed that one can also reach the spa by car through a road when we got there.
The staff of the thermal spa are nice and friendly. The thermal spa itself is not relaxing though. It seems more of a spa place for people with medical needs.
We had a massage at the upper room. Nothing fancy too! The massage was okay but nothing special. We were not satisfied.
The whole complex itself is lovely as it is in the middle of nature. I can suggest to just visit the place and enjoy it.

We went to the thermal baths and spent about 1.5 hours there. The main pool is interesting. Water temperature was ideal. The water jets were different than what I've seen before but efficient. Everyone needs to wear a cap (supplied), a bit weird I find. The whole design is not intuitive and has no proper signage or instructions. Safety is a problem as I slipped and almost fell on my back as I exited the 'surprise' shower. So be careful.
The place is in dire need of renovations. The steam room was out of order and the sauna was occupied, quite small it seems.
It was clean enough even though everything looked old.

Thermal baths almost abandoned.. Very badly indicated. An indoor thermal pool small crowded and that does not make you dream .. 20€ for 1h30 plus 3€ of swimming cap .. Not worth the Award.

Because of the bad weather, we decided to visit the thermal baths in Monchique. The entrance fee of 20 euros per person plus 3 euros for a bathing cap is completely overpriced for 1.5 hours. I have never seen a more run-down sauna than this one. It only has room for a maximum of 3 people. An ancient shower that has to be big enough for the sauna and steam bath area. Ancient changing cubicles and far too little space. The thermal baths were OK. One positive thing to mention is that the price of 20 euros includes a towel and a bathrobe.

We were looking forward to a few hours here having read about it in the guidebook.
The place was deserted, not in a quiet relaxing way but in an eerie abandoned way.
Only one restaurant was open and it was too expensive for a family, more a fine dining venue. We wandered in to the hotel to see if they had a restaurant and again it was derelict feeling, no water in the pools, scruffy around the edges. We did wonder if it had been closed down for a couple of years and mid renovation (which would explain a lot) but having read the reviews on here since, apparently not. Most bizarre. Shame as it looked like it would be a nice after lunch stroll had we found anywhere open.

Everything is practically abandoned like most places in the Algarve (except concrete cities for tourists). Do not expect to see beautiful thermal spaces: everything is more or less shabby and falling into disuse. One wonders where the millions of euros brought in by the mass tourism invading the coast of this province pass?
In short, a place not only shameful but also boring.

We travelled here from Lagos and it was quite underwhelming. After a 45 minute car journey we found a rock that trickled some water, put our hand in it and was done. I can imagine it’s nice if you are staying here but not worth a car journey to visit.

So charming and traditional. Small village in the heart of Monchique mountains. I believe this is the exit point of the famous drinking waters. We visited at the end of Aug so the waters weren’t exactly flowing as it hasn’t rained for months. But well worth a visit anyway.
Beautiful huge boulders and stone picnic tables. Huge trees in a forest that tranquil setting. We loved our visit. Pretty little square in the middle of the village to stop and have a drink.

It was a stay of 5*, although it is 3*.
It is great for shutting off the worries and getting into relaxation mode. The surrounding nature invites to contemplate the beautiful butterflies and the fresh air. The outdoor thermal pool is very good, surrounded by beautiful bushes and trees, in a valley. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed and good bathroom. All very seated.
I really ⁇ the spa treatments, as well as the indoor thermal pool. The Vichy exfoliating massage was divine. I liked the restaurant less for lunch and dinner, but for breakfast is great. I'll be back soon.

Seriously considering cancelling holiday due to current ongoing wildfires. Advice please. Has anyone else been in same situation?
Written 22 July 2019
Unfortunately fires can break out at any time. Not so many trees here as it is more of a peak.

We were in Caldas de Monchique a few weeks ago. We didn't see any evidence of fire damage to Caldas or the surrounding area. We drove in and out in 2 different directions and noticed nothing. Walked around Caldas and up to the spring, all was beautiful! It's a fabulous area, we will return. Have a great holiday!

no, la città è in una piccola valle, quindi non puoi vedere il mare

We walked a little way from Caldes alongside a lavada. Not sure how far the trail goes. Worth trying to find a map?
