The large sculpture by the water in a square with seating and a modern fountain is a pleasant stop in Lagos. The sculpture is dramatic in its depiction of Henry in the costume of his time including the headpiece.

This statue is in the main square where you see the slave market, castle walls, the fortress and church. It makes a good meeting place.

A statue is a statue, especially when unimposing and in a rather mediocre location. Still, it is near interesting sites and town centre. Walk by, glance, move on.

Ok so its a statue but there was no explanation anywhere around it to explain it being there. The water fountains ajacent were interesting to watch though!

Dom Henrique, or Prince Henry the Navigator, sits looking across the river and out to sea with his sextant on his lap, in a refurbished square, replete with illuminated fountains.
