About St. Nicolaas Boat Club
The St. Nicolaas Boat Club of Amsterdam is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic boats on the Amsterdam canals.Founded in 1997, the stichting (non-profit club) has given boat rides to thousands of people. This is a unique opportunity to see Amsterdam from the perspective of a historic open-air tuindersvlet. These boats were traditionally used to carry agricultural products to markets. They were also used as general barges to shuttle materials around cities.Tuindersvletten are not glamorous boats, but they are perfect for the canals. These are the iron boats on which the city was built. They are characterized by their low sides and flat bottom. They are great for carrying vegetables, cows, bricks, and now... people.

This canal boat tour is no longer in operation. The open-boat canal tour has been taken over by the folks at Boom Chicago. See the reviews of Boom Chicago for more information.

Well apparently they did loose the legal battle and do have to run the boats as a business now. It's 15 euro, you get a ticket and the boat is a lot bigger. The tour was still better than your standard canal tour though, not...More

I visited Amsterdam in April. I tracked down Saint Nicholas to a bike shop who informed that they had to shut down due to some issues with the government. I was so disappointed :-( Returning home, I found this on their website: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g188590-d1319323-Reviews-Eetcafe_Singel_404-Amsterdam_Noord_Holland.html I am...More

This was by far the best thing we did in Amsterdam, and quite possibly on our entire European tour! A bottle of wine, some nice cheese, and uber-informative tour guide on a beautiful sunny day made this boat ride an unforgettable experience! A cause I...More
