About
This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

A must for those who visited Amsterdam, it’s a culture that is unique here and none else. A very interesting cultural experience.

Once you get past the overt sexuality, this really just becomes like any other shopping strip (no pun intended). It's very transactional, just every day business. There's nothing tawdry or smutty or taboo about the place. The customers walked in and out of the establishments...More

Great to walk round and very interesting, we saw a peep show and just wondered round the canals. Nice way to spend a evening seeing the sites!

Went for a wander with the wife and found a whole host of little bars and coffee shops in and around the red light district. It’s a bit of a strange place what with all the shop windows with women of the night on display...More

When in Rome! I would go just to say you went. The bars are a bit seedy and they give you wine in a tumbler. This area is not the nicest so steer clear at night

One of the more famous and perhaps seedy parts of Amsterdam it is nonetheless well worth a bit of time on your trip. It is set on one of the prettier canals (in my opinion) which makes it all the more striking when you get...More

If you go by any tour guide you will know the real truth & history behind Red light District. There any free tours available for this area. I took "Free Walking Tour Amsterdam". You will be amazed when you roam in this area.

I am truly an open-minded person who doesn't necessarily look down on such a thing as legalized prostitution. If it's legal, well-regulated and operated, and everyone feels like they have a choice in what they are doing with their body (meaning, no one is being...More

Not particularly spectacular and its hype is better than its actuality. It's a must see I suppose when in Amsterdam (as are coffee shops) but a quick stroll round here and you can tick it off your list.

Sadly, the worst place of Amsterdam. What a tourist trap. Wouldn't recommend anyone to go there most certainly not in the late evening. BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS ...

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist

Coffee shops are everywhere so finding one will be very easy. Staff are usually very patient and friendly.
