Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Moving the world is an art concept which materials from one culture is moved to another culture. The makers installed the stones of the 8 famous city squares that have cultural relationship with Amsterdam such as Cairo, Cassablanca, Oslo, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Jakarta, Athens, Ankara. The image of a compass card in the middle is filled with the stones from those cities. The points of the compass are not pointing to the direction of those places, but the name of the cities. And the rest of the small stones around the compass card were from the Dam square and these stones as a symbol of connecting people from different cultures.

In front of the church steps on the Wittenburg plein I encountered this example of "action art". Stones left over from the Dam Square renovation were exchanged with various cities with famous squares, and embedded along with more Dam Square "damkeitjes" to form this star, pointing to the contributing cities. Interesting and satisfying visit.
