Hidden in plain sight

If you are visiting Alkmaar or the surrounding area why not take an hour of your time to visit this amazing courtyard. A period property still occupied in the middle of a residential area. It is located on a small street on a canal running parallel to Laat one of the main thoroughfares in Alkmaar. Be conscious of the visiting times.

It is a cute place to visit for a short while. Visitors must keep in mind that there are opening hours and they are not supposed to go there outside of the opening hours.

300+ year old great hidden gem of peaceful garden enclosed by houses around it

This is a true hidden gem. It is a court yard enclosed by small houses around it in a rectangular form. During visiting hours the yard is accessible for the public. You enter it through a decorative gate. Worth your visit.

Hidden in plain sight

I love exploring the hidden hofjes in Dutch cities, they take you away from the crowds and provide some peace and quiet. Wildemanshofje is no different, situated close to the centre of Alkmaar, you feel as though you are miles away in the middle of nowhere. The quaint houses and pretty gardens are always beautifully maintained.

Do bear in mind that people still live here, so we were advised not to walk in front of the houses, but walk in the garden instead.

Hidden place in Alkmaar

In Alkmaar you can find more hofjes. This hofje is an old building in a quite surrounding were still people live.
