Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Small museum - had a English speaking film about the brewery and a little taste of the products . Lovely little place - worth a visit . Next door to a quaint tea room in a grocery shop museum .

Boomsma has produced Beerenburger, and some other Dutch favourites - such a great Dutch Gin, for many years. It is hard to decide what this tasty drink is: is it medicene, or is it a wonderful herbal drink. Both I would say, I drink it to deal with a sore throat and for pleasure. The museum consists of a small shop, a museum and a tasting room and is closely linked to the adjacent 'grutters winkel' another lovely period museum dedicated to the preservation of an early 20th C grocers shop. A great visit any time, but in my case when the weather late November was appalling. The Berenburger was a warming up drink and helped to fortify me against the weather.

We learned about the history of the Boomsma distillery through a short film (English version) and also from the lady who looked after us. The tour is free, buts we paid a small sum for a tasting of the Boomsma products and we enjoyed the different drinks.

Nice small museum on Boomsma distillery. Do a tasting. If you go to "het andere museum" first, you get tickets for free visit and tasting.

The good: They know their products, it's very old-fashioned, and you have the option of tasting their products after a short video of their history. Our host was a very polite gentleman who switched to English and was clearly proud of the company and their wares.
The bad? Nothing. Really enjoyed it. History and chemistry and business and drinks to sample all rolled up in one.
The quirky? I'm going to have to go back to buy some of their spirits I can't find locally!

Cute little building that explains a bit of the process of the Boomsma portfolio of drinks. Our guide was very attentive and entertaining and put up with my distorted face for the more prime products in their protfolio (Jenever and Beerenburger - I don't really do those sorts of drinks straight up (or at all!)). We opted for the extensive tasting, which is a great deal. We got there around 3 pm, which was a great time for the tasting (if you come at 4 pm you might only have time for a short tasting, since they close at 5). We really enjoyed some of the products and left with three different bottles, however there was no pressure to buy at all. A fun diversion from shopping and cheese in Leeuwarden!

Don't let the word "Museum" put you off. This is a small place with a lot of history and an interesting story. The staff were fantastic and we had a great time chatting after trying out the product. The video is well done and the English translation is also well done. Sometimes in these videos the translation seems like an after-thought and is not done well. This one was interesting and fun! I cannot say I am a fan of the product (I very rarely drink alcohol and do not like beer at all) - but my German friend who was with me liked it greatly and I did bring some back to the US to share with family members who are more likely to enjoy.

Boomsma Museum is a small and interesting place. The staff is very friendly, you get to view a short 10 minute video about the history Boomsma Beerenburger. Once done you have 2 options: 1.5 euro (2 product tasting) or 4.5 euro (additional tasting and a present). The museum itself is interesting and everything was great. Just a small heads up - the museum is not open on Sunday.

This distillery is now in it's 5th generation of the Boomsa family and they have some interesting artifacts and accompanying story (via video) to explain their historical use as well as that of the Beerburger drink. Afterwards we sampled the beergburger and some genevers (at a small cost for those). Our guide was genial and we enjoyed discovering more about the various liquors produced not only in Leeuwarden, but some of their other locations as they are expanding.
