Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In our opinions, this part of Zurich we loved the most in Zurich. It's by the River Limmat, filled with many restaurants & shops but not overcrowded, & it's beautiful!
It's a hidden gem & I would like to come back one day!

If you only have a few hours in Zurich, and the weather is fine, then go for a stroll along the Limmatquai. It's only a stone's throw from the main station Zurich HB which is itself only a 12-min ride from the airport. Trains run every 15 mins or so. (If you buy an all day ticket at the airport, you can use it to hop on and off the trams in Zurich as well.) The Limmat riverbank is lined with shops and cafes and criss-crossed with bridges. Plenty of vantage points for photos. The wiggley little streets just behind the riverbank on the Niederdorf side are cobbled and full of charming old buildings with strange angular shapes, and there are dozens of little squares and courtyards with restaurants and cafes. It is a delightful place to stroll around or stop for a coffee. Unfortunately, the scene is often marred by noisy roadworks so you might have to search a lot before you can find a cafe that has both a view as well as some peace and quiet. This is the price the Swiss pay for their immaculate infrastructure - they are constantly improving it, creating nasty building sites in the middle of their paradise! After a mile or so, you arrive at Bellevueplatz which is where the Limmat river opens out onto the lake, the Zurichsee. The iconic trams are plentiful so if you are tired you can easily catch a lift on one of the trams going back up towards the Central area, and then walk across the bridge back to the station.

Limmatquai is an interesting street in Zurich that runs around the length of the Limmat River. One finds several churches, quaint shops and restaurants along this street. One can explore this street by walking or alternatively by taking a tram that runs on it.

Limmatquai is a walk along the river Limmat which leads to the beautiful Lake Zurich. mix of buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Varied shops and restaurants typical of the region. Airy, nice.

Walking along the Limmat river through Zurich, from Hauptbahnhof to Lake Zurich, and come back through Bahnhofstrasse gives a great overview of this compact and romantic old town. Lovely stroll, detouring into the old city and back and forth across the many bridges.

Whenever we to Zurich we enjoy walking along the limmatquai, the street running next to the river which separates the city in two.
There are several souvenir shops, cafes and small businesses on this street, and also some other worthy attractions.
As you will see, still nowadays businesses live and thrive in the proximity of a river.

Beautiful place to walk. You could see Zurich from several views. Several bridges, after Lindenhof this is the other amazing place.

I like this area very much - on the quay you can stroll either along the river or into the charming old town just off it, catch a boat down the river to the lake, take a funicular up the hill to the university area, shop, and/or dine. My only bit of advice would be - watch yourself when crossing. It's almost impossible from the quay to NOT cross tram tracks. If you're worried, follow a Swiss person very tightly. The trams in Zurich are not as a aggressive and numerous as those in Basel, but if you're not careful you probably won't be run down, but you may be given a scare - and who would want that in lovely Zurich!
