I have visited many escape rooms in the greater Zurich area, but the room in the Novotel West hotel is by far the worst I have ever seen. The room was called "The Hidden World - Family" and we visited it with 2 adults and 4 children (all 11-12 years old). A completely carelessly designed room with completely unrelated puzzles. It felt like every second puzzle was a combination lock. It was a disappointment for the children. I found it abysmally bad. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it at all. There are other really exciting and child-friendly escape rooms that put a lot of effort into designing a room and offering a story to go with it. Never again URBANescape!

It was our first escape room for children and the first impression was almost frightening. The lady who picked us up at the reception was very friendly and gave us great instruction. "The Hidden World" I think it was and when it opened the door to this "world" I would have to swallow empty. the room seemed very lovelessly tinkered and yes was not exactly captivating. The puzzles were okay many combination locks and certain elements could not be correctly assigned to the corresponding puzzle. After this experience I will try other providers in the future

The scavenger hunt is a flop. The fun of the game wears off after the first two tasks: the questions are not original, the solutions can only be solved in combination with Google Maps and Google. In addition, the solution word must be entered "exactly". e.g. Genève is correct - but Geneve, GENEVE or Geneva do not work. Different spelling variants should be entered here.
The price of CHF 30 per person is completely overpriced, poor value for money, rip-off.

We decided to go here because of the tripadvisor reviews, so I thought I better spell this out for people so they know what to expect:
- upon arrival, you'll be entering what feels like a doctors office. There is no decoration, theme, character, nothing! Just a white clinical apartment. Even the admin lady was like dealing with a doctors receptionist.
- the room itself, has not soundproof so you can hear everything that's happening on the next room.
- the theme music is a tiny speaker in a corner with some jungle sounds, how about surround sound people?!
- the quality of the components and materials is that of a high school teacher level, paper clues laminated, picture cutouts, cheap kids toys, crappy lighting, etc. You could easily recreate the whole experience at home.
- it is "language independent" because it's all number based puzzles, no variety.
- very expensive for what it is.
- it says that the puzzle is for 2 to 6 people, but they don't scale it according to the number of players. The lady said that we should be 3 (we were two) but that's not what the website said. We completed most of the puzzles so I don't see how it would scale with 6, it would be too easy.
- puzzles themselves were not difficult, just many for two people.
We did the jungle themed escape room, the website makes it out to be some crazy adventure, in which you'll have to use physical effort to find clues. It tells you not to wear tight or delicate clothing. Needless to say, you can do this in a silk dress wearing high heels ;)
For the effort they've put into the rooms, decor, puzzles, theme, the cost is just too high. I can't say that I'd recommend this experience.

Dear Olga
We are sorry to read that the Adventure in the Jungle was something else than you expected. Moreover, because after you finished the game you and your friend looked like you had a lot of fun in the room.
We understand, that at first you had a different idea of what escape game is and of what to expect in our Jungle room, as you figured it out before the game started. You thought you will be closed in a big hall where you have to practise a lot of physical activities to solve the riddles. And that's why you wanted to cancel your slot (5 minutes before the start of the slot). But then you didn't want to pay the cancellation fee of 50 Francs and you decided to play it anyways.
Please allow me to react to the points you listed in your review:
You wrote you are disapponted about how the room looks like and about the riddles. I must say, that the Jungle room belongs to the nicest escape rooms generally.
Further you claimed, that the sound is from a tiny speaker. That's not problem of the speaker. We could do it louder so that you do not hear sounds from the other room. But then it could be too loud for many people. And the comunication between players is very important, so they should be able to speak together without shouting. And I must say, that all people by now told us, they were surprised, that they couldn’t hear anything from the other room, because they were concentrated on the game. Maybe in your case was the group in Room of Rebel too much loud and you could hear them. For this I am very sorry, of course.
The riddles in escape games are in general about keys and codes. You write, there is no variety in riddles. This really hurts, because the tasks were designed to be diverse. There are no two tasks, which would be similar or the same.
Further you write they aren't difficult but many. This is written on the webpage, that "There are many playful and action riddles". This is also a purpose. Because they are many, they cannot be difficult. Otherwise players will not be able to finish the game in time.
You write that the quality of components and materials are of a high school teacher level. Unfortunately it is always like this. Riddles in escape rooms are really difficult to buy 'ready to use' as they are always unique. So a lot of handmade work is involved. I am sorry you didn't like them, it cost us a lot of time and effort to create them. Till now we got just compliments for our handmade work.
You also wrote, that we told you recommended size of the group is at least 3 and it's not written on the website. This is not correct, above the reservation table there is a text: Recommended size of the group: 3 and more.
Next point was, that there are many puzzles for two people. That's why we recommend a bigger group.
You were really very smart as you could nearly finish the game eventhough you were just two of you!
You write we don't scale the game according to how many people come. That's right. This is unfortunately not possible and none escape room does it. But people know it and they decide by themselves, how many will play.
Sorry, I can't find on our homepage where we write "you'll have to use physical effort to find clues". The briefing before the game says, you shouldn't use any physical effort in the room.
We don't recommend to wear tight and delicate clothing cause of the tunnel and of the wooden house. Materials like silk or tights can get damaged easily cause of the wood. And we don't want to be responsible for damaged clothing. (The Room of Rebel hasn't any recommendation of clothing).
You write the price is too high. In fact the cost is the same like other escape rooms in Zürich. Eventhough we have much better (=more expensive) location just 15 minutes to walk from the main train station.
I must admit, the entrance and the waiting room/cafe with white walls without any decoration look boring. We know that and we are thinking to about refurnishing it. Unfortunately we hadn't time yet, because we were busy building the jungle room and then our new escape missions. To have a good game is what our clients pay for. This is what is important now, and that’s why we postponed the refurbishment for later.
By the way: we are the only escape game in Zürich, which has even a waiting room/cafe where you can drink something before or after the game.
Best wishes,
Vladimira Scheidegger
The admin lady

Wow, this must be the most exciting place in Zurich! Not only we had a great time while playing, we spent the rest of the day analysing all the tasks. They just seems so obvious once you get them. Adventure in the jungle is absolutely worth a visit. Also, it’s located near the train station so easy to get to too.

We went here while i was visiting my friend in Zürich , she took us here, because she already has played the Room of Rebel and she liked it very much. So we played Adventure in the jungle. We had a lot of fun ! :) Riddles are very original and nice done ! Many codes and keys, but it is not confusing at all as you always know, which code or key belongs to which lock. We were 5 people and we got it in the last minute to escape in time! :) I can recommend to everybody who want to experience a lot of fun with friends.

We went as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids, 12, 10 and 6 year old). We found it really worthwhile for a family. There was something in for everyone. The Family option contains the same riddles as for the adults. We were told, you would come to the goal with less riddles to be solved than for the adult only version. We were "finished" already after 36 minutes, but were of course allowed to continue. In the end we solved all but 2 riddles after one hour.
It is a great thing to do. The price is not that much suitable for a family. We got a voucher as present. We would have booked it only for a very special occasion.

We came and did the Family Adventure Room. This room is suitable for kids from 5. As far as I am aware, it's the only of it's kind in Zurich, although there are other options for adults. We had great fun and managed to get out in time. The kids received a small gift at the end.

I was on a business trip in Zurich and my local colleagues took me to play this escape game. I was no novice to escape games as I have played it before. I pretty much knew what to expect, but the Jungle room really surprised me. Unlike other escape rooms, where you have to mainly solve puzzles and crack codes using logic, here you have to also accomplish funny and a little bit physical quests. I really enjoyed crawling in the tunnel, playing with a remote control car, fish fishing and there is a little house on the slopes inside the room too. It was fun to stuff yourself inside and solve some tasks inside. I definitely recommend.
