About
Recognized worldwide as the mountain on the Toblerone chocolate bar, the Matterhorn sits on the Switzerland-Italy border. Enjoy magnificent views of the mountain from Zermatt, a quaint car-free village; or from the top of Gornergrat, where you’ll find viewing platforms, a short Scenic Loop hike, and a virtual reality paragliding experience. If you're an early riser, don't miss the chance to take the first train up to Riffelsee, and snap a picture of the Matterhorn together with its reflection in a lake. Even better, have an aerial view from above on a helicopter tour, or check out the best spots on a guided day hike. – Tripadvisor

    Majestic mountain!
Lifelong wish come true to see this in person! It’s viewable from town on a clear day but the peak is usually “attached”to a cloud. No worries because it adds character to the photos! We took the train up to the Gornergrat and hiked down past the lakes. There so many different beautiful photo opportunities on the at down. Hopefully you can take a photo of this majestic mountain yourself.

    Matterhorn on a clear day
You cannot go wrong with a trip on a clear day to the Matterhorn. Although the way in Zermatt was surprisingly poorly marked, ( thanks to the contributor on a trip advisor forum who mentioned this) we found our way to the cog train and to the cable car, for a glorious trip to the Matterhorn Glacial Paradise. Both trips were worth every penny/ Swiss franc.

    Wonderful Matterhorn
A trip to the summit of the Matterhorn should be on everyone's bucket list. Ideally you need cleat weather at the top to fully appreciate the magnificent views but on our recent visit there was quite a lot of cloud at the summit which did not permit such great views. The train trip up to the summit is well organised and does not take very long. A relatively new experience at the top in the interesting ZOOOM experience where one can undergo a sensory experience of floating over the Matterhorn which was very good.

One of the best things in Switzerland
This experience was amazing. I loved every minute of it. We took three levels of gondolas to get to the very top of the mountain. We almost missed the tunnel into the glacier which was wonderful. When you travel deep into the glacier there are beautiful ice sculptures to see. Don’t miss this part. It was fabulous.

    Iconic and Majestic
Given its size you can view the Matterhorn from almost anywhere. Within Zermatt, Kirchbrucke (Church Bridge) is a perfect place to do so, unimpeded - and the cloudless sky was a perfect setting. Outside of Zermatt, one can travel to Gornergrat, but thanks to a Swiss friend, she suggested and took us to, the five lakes trail at Blauherd to view a reflection of the Matterhorn in one of the three lakes that offer that scene. That trip requires a journey of train, cable car and a long walk over rough ground - but it was worth it. Again, a perfect, sunny day and whilst a little cloud did attach itself to the peak of the Matterhorn and there was a slight ripple in the lake, we were handsomely rewarded with some great scenery and photographs. The lake is popular for swimming and the whole area is very much a hiking area, so trails were rough and a reasonable level of fitness is required. There are no facilities at the lake, but there are naturally, at the cable station.

    I have no words
Iconic. Beautiful. Majestic. Imposing. I'm at a loss for wards on how insanely sculpted the Matterhorn is. I went during sunrise and that was a sight to see, the Matterhorn above the clouds. You never see such a sight like that at a normal day! If it was foggy in the area, don't worry, its just clouds passing through. In my case, the clouds passed and it eventually burned off after two hours. So feel free to explore the area even if it's foggy. The view will clear up eventually!

    Wow, the Matterhorn
Wow, well worth the trip up the mountain to see this Mountain. If you cannot see this mountain apex, stay around with some lunch or coffee and it should shift. Stay on it is well worth it.

    What we came for
It was what we came for on quite a lengthy daytrip and it most certainly didn’t disappoint. From arrival and walking to the ticket station it was a delightful sight. This continued to be the day-long case whilst beautifully framed against a cloudless deep azure sky.

    Wonderful Matterhorn!
I enjoyed the trip by train there. The view was breathtaking and I later learned that it was a part of the world known Glacier Express. Zermatt was a beautiful town. Food was good. The Matterhorn scenery was magnificent. One day trip was too short for me.

We saw the Matterhorn on a cloudless day, spectacular
My wife and I visited Zermatt on our wedding anniversary trip to Switzerland this past summer. We rode the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt. When we arrived late in the afternoon the sky was cloudless and we had an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn. It was spectacular. We had a view of the Matterhorn from the balcony of our hotel in Zermatt. It was one of those things that I looked at every opportunity as we walked around the town of Zermatt. I hope it is not covered by clouds when you travel to Zermatt.

Nice village Zermatt, but too crowded. Overpriced as well as you need to take train there, cars are not permitted. It is long walk to the mountain. The mountain itself not very impressive. There are lots of other more beautiful places in Swiss Alps.

Stayed in Zermatt and took the train up. The cost of the train is 60 CHF per person for a 25 minute journey, so expensive and typical of Switzerland!
Other than the exorbitant train price, the view was very good.
Worth it, if you are desperate to see it.

We did the trip up to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise as part of a Peak2Peak ticket. The weather was a little cloudy but we took a chance to go up knowing that we will probably never return here. It was cold but did not rain which made the trip up worth it.

The train and the gondola/cable ride provided beautiful views. Out of all the mountains we visited, this one and the Titlis were the best. The staff and ticket office were all very friendly and accommodating which made the trip easy and we felt very safe. Lots of skiers and the small town is very attractive and has a lot of choices of shops and restaurants. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Zermatterhoff which was centrally located and highly recommend spending a few days in Zermatt.

Overall experience was good.
Few tips I would like share:
1. When you take train ticket to go up then take until Gornergrat, I would be little cheaper ( about 75 CHF)

2. Be ready to about 30-40 CHF for lunch, if you want to have lunch near Riffelsee station.

3. Better start early in the morning.

Our first time being in the Swiss alps but it was breathtaking. We went snowboarding for 3 days and riding down the slopes with views of this beautiful mountain was just amazing.

Every time you look at it, you just want to take another photo. Another video.

Sometimes it got cloudy and foggy so it really depends on the visibility. If it's a clear day, it's absolutely stunning.

My wife and I visited Zermatt in mid may and decided to go up to see the Matterhorn on the Gornergrat railway. Having our Swiss rail pass we got 50% off on the price for this ride. Wow ! Was it worth it ! Although there is a lot of screeching going around turns the ride had some fantastic views ! At the top the view was absolutely Magnificent ! The temperature was 21 Celsius which was quite warm and a surprise considering the snow on the ground. If you ever make it to Zermatt do yourself a favor and go right to the TOP ! You will not be sorry.

The day we visited it remained cloudy. However view from the cable cars was amazing. From one of the Cable Car Stations we could see a glimpse of Mighty Matterhorn for sometime. It was spectacular. Sculptures made of ice inside Matterhorn Glacier Paradise were so beautiful. Overall it was a wonderful experience. It would have been even better on a clear sunny day.
