Just stroll along the front, or take a lovely boat trip from the town pier. The trip goes to several little villages around the lake, and down to the Italian border. It's just spectacular.

At the request of my friend who is from Switzerland, he urged me to visit as I was in Milan on holiday. The train ride was about an hour north of Milan just across the border to Lugano. I walked down the stoned cobbled path...More

Don't worry about tours or directions. Just walk along the esplanade lakeside for a lovely way to spend an afternoon. It is lined with hotels, restaurant, boat rides, at least one frescoed church, a n art museum, and throngs of people in season....

I came here years ago and stopped briefly en route to Italy. Wonderful view as you step out from the station and a delightful walk along a tree-lined street bordering the lake. There has so much building here, though, that much of the charm has...More

We really enjoyed our first trip to Lugano. The lakeshore is gorgeous, and is a marvelous place to take a walk among the gardens. It is a wonderful place to dine, relax, and just enjoy the mountains.

The Lugano corniche is really nice. You can walk along the lake front without any cars disturbing. You always see mountains on the other side of the lake, which makes it even nicer. There are several places you can take a boat from. Usually you...More

By car it is approx 1 and a half hours. By train you would have to travel via Milan, approx 3 and a half hours.

I don’t know about the day pass for vehicle as I travelled from Zurich by train. Lugano centre is beautiful when walking around the little roads and the lake side is magnificent. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
