Good site, terrible staff
Mar 2021 • Family
The archaeological site below St-Pierre Cathedral is truly magnificent. My children are young but enjoyed it with additional explanation I was able to provide. The experience was ruined, however, by a very rude staff member at the front desk. We were the only visitors of the site and he very rudely asked me not to talk above a whisper while visiting the exhibit. He actually called me over and said, “I just want to make sure you understand this is a museum. Talking is not allowed.” This, to me, is unacceptable. I paid a fee to have my two kids with me (6&7 years old) and it is unreasonable to expect them to stay silent during the visit. They were calm and had lots of interesting questions that would help them understand what they were seeing. I do not recommend this place on that basis.

Remains of hidden churches
Aug 2019
In the basement of the cathedral, this site is open to the public. The remains of churches pre-dating the Cathedral are hidden beneath this ancient building, the oldest dating back to the 4th century.

This archeological site is at the basement of the St Pierre Church. The place is well lit and interesting. The audio guide was very helpful in explaining the different places inside.

Even if archeology is not your thing, spend a few bucks and do the self-guided tour! You will not be bored. it is so well explained, too. ONe of the best of its kind in terms of excavations. Even a pre-Christian era grave

Simply Incredible
Jan 2020
As an avid fan of museums, I tend to have high expectations, especially when it comes to ones that involve archeological sites. This site is located underneath St. Pierre's Cathedral, which made for some stunning moments while Mass was going on above me (hearing church bells and singing was wonderful).
In terms of the museum by itself, the audioguide was incredibly informative and helped to tell the story of the site and the buildings that have been there for hundreds of years.

Very interesting

Especially interesting for the fans of history. The archaeological site located just under the St. Pierre's Cathedral show not only the creation and the transformation of the Cathedral that has been happening throughout the years (centuries actually!) but also a little bit of history of the development of the city as well.

This attraction wasn’t even on the radar yet having just seen I felt compelled to write a review. The archeological display is world class and extremely well presented with visual and audio capturing the history of the cathedral(s) and of Geneva. A must see!
