Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Les Schtroumpfs is a must visit in Switzerland because the architecture is mind blowing.
It is known as the town of smurfs!
When I was there, I felt like I was in a dystopian place but people actually live there!

This housing complex and theatre in Les Grottes is worth a visit to look at the architecture. I am not sure they managed to quite pull-off the design, there are places that look like they haven't really been functionally thought through. However, overall an interesting architectual experiment which will get you thinking and talking.

I spent my childhood in Geneva and went to the primary school connected to this residential complex (Ecole des grottes).

When school was over, kids would walk out and stream into the Schtroumph area, entering their respective homes like little smurfs. I remember being so enchanted by the area, and when I would play at my friends house and see the lovely, spacious interiors I was so jealous!

As an adult today returning as a tourist, I really appreciate the fact that these are (Or at least were when I was a kid) low-income housing units. Compared to the ones from my home-town in New York which look like prisons, these look like a labor of...creativity, humanity, if not love.

They are a relic to the once-vibrant counter-culture in Geneva. As a kid in the 90's I remember squats and anarchist symbols strewn in the surroundes area of Les Grottes. And in fact, "Les Schtroumph" were built as a result of a serious fight between a mix of political refugees and squatters in the late 70's, who fought the planned demolition of most buildings in the area until the city gave in and decided to renovate and maintain the neighborhood.

We stumbled across this whilst lost but it was a great find. The inspiration of the buildings looks to have a Gaudi influence and lots of bright colours. It was definitely an interesting find.

We stumbled upon these buildings in our search for a restaurant. We ended up eating right across the street. Lots of fun to look at. Since we didn't know how much of a landmark this was we marveled a the cool decks, took pics and moved on. A lot of the architecture of Geneva is fairly plain, so this was really a delight.

It is kinda a fun building hidden in middle of Geneva. I am not sure why it's called Schtroumph building but it's worth to have a look at.

We stayed in Geneva for a couple of days and saw that we were only a short distance from the Grottes district and the Smurf buildings. As a frequent visitor to Barcelona, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to these Gaudi inspired public housing. Don't just look from the outside, but go into the complex. The staircases, balconies and many more things were very interesting.

How on earth did they get the go ahead to build this monstrosity is anyone's guess... absolutely zero architectural interest and a curse places on the neighbours as values must have plummeted hard after this awful building was built.
