Perhaps because my expectations were a little higher than most, I was slightly disappointed in this museum. Don't get me wrong; one still needs to go as there is an amazing amount of history packed in such a small place (a delightful building with the...More

This collection of artifacts, books, papers, and illustrations highlights the reformation from Martin Luther to the modern era. The focus is primarily on John Calvin and Geneva but all aspects are covered. Signage is mostly in French with some English and German translations. Multilingual audio...More

This museum is just next to the cathedral and should not be missed. For non French speakers you will need the audio guide. Lots of exhibits to browse over with explanations provided in the audio - portraits, paintings, old bibles, videos, drawings including several on...More

In a beautiful historic building, worth visiting in itself, hidden away in the old town, is this museum which I thought unlikely to interest teenagers. Yet it did. Not by pandering to them with "interactive" buttons and bling-bling, but by retelling the history of the...More

An interesting museum to those wishing to learn more about this aspect of Christian history. Many of the exhibits are labelled in French (partly helped by English headsets and the lay out of the museum wasn't very clear. Had time permitted going on an English...More

We arrived very enthusiastic to learn more about Calvin and the birth of the Reformation; we left one hour later very little the wiser. The museum is a series of small rooms crammed with documents, artefacts and paintings. Each of these items has a description...More

Not the most exciting museum as it is mainly made up of documents, letters, portraits but the free audio guide and plaques provide copious details on the history and founding fathers of Protestantism. During the 500th anniversary they have a replica of the Gutenberg printing...More

The MIR (Museum of the Reformation) was founded in 2005. In the 16th century, John Calvin set out to turn Geneva into a model way for living the Christian life. I was quite irritated that the MIR would not allow any photography (even without flash).

This is the kind of museum where you learn some history, and the presentation is probably more important than the artifacts. There are some artifacts, but you might see such manuscripts and documents in other museums. The audio-visual presentations are what are most important here,...More
