We are staying in Umbria and spent today at Passignano del Trasimeno, a beautiful lakeside village with fantastic views over the lake. There were several excellent small restaurants, Sottovente highly recommended, and the trip by boat to Isola Maggiore is well worth it.

The lake Trasimeno is just wonderful (mostly on the summer or spring) but you can go there anytime. Stay at Castiglione del Lago, a cozy "paese" with a beautiful view.

Quiet, peaceful, close to nature. A boat trip to one of the islands for example Isola Maggiore is fantastic! You have possibilities for trekking, sailing, eating ice cream or having lunch outside.

A short and disappointing visit to Castiglione and Lake Trasimeno resulted in a quick dash to Montepulciano for supper instead. Wouldn't recommend the former.

It's a lovely place to see. It's not far from Perugia, about half an hour by train. So if you have time, you can go there to enjoy the view or if you check the ferry times before you go, maybe you can catch a...More

No review can tell you the beauty of the Lake. Plenty of activities to do and places to visit. The islands, the little villages around the Lake. I suggest you visiting Castiglione del Lago. One of the most quaint "Borghi" of Umbria. Peaceful and cosy....More

It is possible to see the lake and Castiglione del Lago from Montepulciano a few miles away. It takes about an hour from Arezzo to Castelione del Lago, and is well worth the drive. We combined it with Montepulciano and Castiglion Fiorentino to make a...More

Beautiful old cities: Castiglione del Lago and Passignano, from these cities you can take the boat to islands in the lake

Drove around parts of the lake, stopping at a few towns and wandering through the area. Tried to have lunch with a direct view of the lake everywhere we stopped. There was a beauty and calmness that nourished my soul.

It's definitely worth it - especially with kids - and you might find yourself going there several times. Start with Castiglione del Lago on the western side of the lake. Skip the central town and drive along the lakefront... More
