It's absolutely wonderful, very beautiful and less touristy compared to any place in Tuscany. It's also a home to a very old university, full of life.

We spent three hours exploring the main piazzas and back streets and loved every moment. From very narrow streets to grand piazzas and the most amazing distant views.

Get the local tourist guide book and follow the tours which have been designed. Visit the Church at saint Pietro. It has an excellent collection of art and tablet guides are provided to help with navigation.

Wandered around aimlessly, just seeing what the old town offers. Lots of the usual suspects - shops, restaurants and little cafes. Was surprised at how large it was.

Perugia was a prosperous independent city with a proud tradition of city government. Inside the old walls (still largely intact) the city centre is full of civic buildings and small streets and alleys. Fine cathedral and churches, excellent regional museum and other sites. Well worth...More

I have heard of Perugia for over 40 years and it lived up to expectations. The whole town is a higgledy-piggledy mess of civilizations built on top of each other, with a pleasing lack of organization. Each turn has a new sight.

There was performers when we arrived which was an unexpected bonus. The architect is stunning and the square is large.
