This is not a big tourist attractions, it is just the kind of church I love. Simple, beautiful, homely. It is a place I would use to contemplate and just BE. Restrictions are minimal and just what one would expect in a church anyway.
This sweet little church was built in 1615 on the site where St. Francis was said to have been born.
Inside the church, beautiful frescoes adorn the upper walls. Just outside of the church, a statue depicting St. Francis' parents is on display.
On my way back to where we were parked, I wanted to stop to see one other church I had seen that was close to the Temple of Minerva. It was the Chiesa Nuova. This church was built over the birthplace of St. Francis, his...More
Chiesa Nuova is built above the site that is considered the paternal home of St. Francis. It was so named, as at the time it was built it was the newest church in Assisi. It was erected in the early 17th century and built in...More
There's a pilgrims' path which connects the Basilica for Clare to the Basilica for Francis. Chiesa Nuova lies in between. It is the church built on Francis' home. Be sure to tour all three spots.

This is the historical religious birthplace of Saint Francis. It covers the home of Pietro di Bernardone, Saint Francis' father. It includes the small cell that his father locked him in to prevent him from continuing with his fledgling religious ministry.
We found this small church next to an excellent pizzeria called Otello. The inside of the church is beautiful with great photo opportunities.
Worth a visit before or after you try the excellent and very reasonably priced pizza at Otello.
A small church in Assisi. It is considered a new church even though it was built close to 300 years ago. Here you will find the home of St. Francis and the prison where his mother (or father?) held him captive. Some parts of the...More
this is one of the many churches to see in the area------ it doesn't quite measure up to the Cathedral on top of the city or santa Maria on the other side of the train station. It is definitely a church to see and walk around.
