Do take the time to visit the Hermitage and Caves - a truly memorable part of Assisi. Can be reached on foot for the intrepid, but if so, do go in the cooler part of the day.

It its amazing that such sacred places are still available to visit: St Francesco lived and prayed here with his brotherhood 800 years ago, and it is miraculous that today we invited to feel the atmosphere of their life at this Sanctuary. You will see...More

Located a short drive in the hills behind Assisi is this hermitage. It was so peaceful and silent it felt right to observe the numerous "silencio" signs. There is no photos allowed within the hermitage structure itself. We entered the Sanctuary which had a number...More

This is a tranquil little place where St. Francis used to pray and contemplate often. There are taxis available to go up there. But it is also possible to walk uphill in about 1.5~2 hours. It is a rather steep uphill walk on the graveled...More

I highly recommend a trip up to Eremo delle Carceri if you're in Assisi and interested in St Francis' life. It gives you a sense of the early Franciscans eagerness to leave town and be close to nature. And yes! you can walk to Eremo...More

A good place to meditate, contemplate, and open your eye of your soul to see and feel the wonder of God.

An hour walking in the woods. to prepare for silence. outside the walls. To find again the real mystic atmosphere of Assisi. out of the temple and away from merchants. to recover the true dimension of love. Unforgettable.

Peaceful. Walk thru the forest was inspirational. Great views a great hike but not for people not used to hiking.

This is the site Saint Francis would retreat to for solitude. It is really a magical place and highly recommended.

Opposite the entrance is a parking place. If you go before or around 10:00 in the morning, it won't be to bussy and without busses. May God bless you. Felix van Hulsen.

I don't remember exactly. I think it was about 5 euros per person for a shared cab.
