It’s a decent climb uphill but the views are simply outstanding! The castle doesn’t compare to others plus it doesn’t provide any better viewing as access battlements is not provided. So skip the admission and take in the view from it’s forecourt. Take some water...More

From much of town and the surrounding countryside this ruined castle can be seen as it sat high above Assisi. It was a steady climb from the centre of town to the top. There was over one hundred metres of elevation gain to the Rocca...More

It's a fair wee walk up to this castle in the stifling heat but so absolutely worth it the castle itself is lovely with some good information and nice wee displays inside but the view from the highest point was the highlight simply stunning.

It's a long, long way up from the Basilica to this old fortress. But the fantastic view make it a must.

We walked up to Rocca Maggiore just to see the views, but decided to go in. We were glad we did! It's a well preserved slice of history and well worth seeing. Once you are at the top, the views are spectacular in every direction....More

If you visit Assisi, make sure you take the walk up to Rocca Maggiore. It is a brief 10-15 minute walk up from the historic center (not terribly steep). There you will find a fairly well-preserved castle with spectacular views of the whole valley with...More
