Another statue by Giambologna, who made the one for the Fountain of Neptune, this one depicts the Rape of the Sabine Women. It is planned that it might be substituted by a copy, due to the fact that atmospheric agents are degrading the original quickly.

Two versions of this famous sculpture can be seen in two different places: in the Loggia dei Lanzi and in the Accademia Gallery. The first is obviously the more accessible one. There is a special Giambologna room located at the very entrance of the Accademia...More

This statue is 4.10 metres tall and was made by Giambologna. It's one of many artistic impressions of the abduction of Sabine women in Roman mythology. There are claims the word rape wasn't meant in the way we use it now. It was more like...More

There are many art pieces here and the Ratto della Sabina is one unique piece. I couldn’t believe when the guide said this was the original. If you are into sculpture art, you’ll like this one.

Giambologna work is the original in the Loggia. The copy is in the Accademia, so it i sinteresting that this extraordinary work is on open space. Beautiful statue.

I hadn't realised, until I started researching, that Giambologna statue at the Galleria dell'Accademia is the model and the one on the Loggia is the original. I had assumed that the Loggia's was a copy and the original would be the one inside at the...More

The loggia is so full of interesting pieces, it's hard to single any out in particular, yet, this twisting statue has a charm.
